What would be considered a good, medium, or poor score on the 3dmark03 build 340 benchmark program? I scored a 5139... that good?

Sorry but thats poor. I have 1,000 more points than you and have a non pro. Overclock that thing and get some better performance. Your memory is much better than the infenion. Just look out for snow or jaggies. Snow is from too high of a core overclock and jaggies or lines that shouldnt be there is from a too high of a memory over clock. Just up each 5 meg at a time and run the WHOLE video test and be looking for any of the above. Then move it 5 more and so on till yo u get problems then back down 5 and do it again and make sure it doesnt reappear. Then if you want back it down 5 more for god measure and everyday use. Then your done. You got more potential in that card than a 5139. Good Luck.

It's not really poor, that's just stock speeds on a Radeon 9800Pro, that's what I benched in 3dmark03, but I havent gotten a chance to overclock yet. Left my ramsinks at school :(

THat's good or bad depending on the system configuration.

By todays standards, it's a DECENT score. I'm running around 7k, but on the same (he's asking about 3dmark03, not 3dmark01) My girlfriends rig gets only about 2800 though.. but her machine is plenty fast for her.

And just so everyone knows.. the reason why he's NOT running dual channel is because of me advising him to do it. It's not that I'm against dual channel, it's that he was on a specific budget, and "in the near future" he'd be able to swing a second ram stick.. so I told him get 1 512mb module now.. and then buy the 2nd as soon as he can afford it... His goal is 1 gb ram, but in his budget, he couldn't swing it all at once, and going to 512 via 2 x 256 would just mean he'd have to ditch the 2 x 256's when he was ready for 1 gb.

mmm... i just got 5401 with the specs in my sig on stock speeds on 3dmark03

and 9846 on 3dmark01 with my 9800 pro at 411/364

haven't OC'd anything yet

Your 3dmark01 score is terribly low. I have a 2800@3200 with a 9800pro (non oc'd) and I get 18.6k. Also , I think your 3dmark03 is pretty low. I havn't had a chance to run 3dmark03 yet , but when I had my 9500np - 9700 (373core/314mem) I was able to get 5500 or so I believe. Might want to take a look at your drivers or something else that would be bottlenecking your computer.

Would it be my settings by any chance? Should i set direct 3d or opengl both on performance or quality? AA on or of? AF on or of? I have no clue about which settings I should set for the optimal performance....

I would check your mobo drivers and make sure they are up to date.

Yesterday, I reformatted and ran 3DMark without up to date mobo drivers. After that I installed the latest mobo drivers and my score increased by a 1/3...I didn't realize how big of a difference they actually made.

but i do have the latest drivers on everything. =-/

ok im downloading that now... hope that will boost my performance... but what about my gfx settings? I have AA at 4x and AF at 8x.... Is that good or bad? I also shut off vertical sync and TRUform
EDIT: this really sucks all the drivers except intel INF are dling fine... the INF keeps going at 1k (im on cable internet)

Does anyone have this driver? The connection to this driver keeps timing out for some reason... All the other drivers on that page worked extremely well... 300k dl's

AAx4 & AFx8 will definately lower your score. Typically when people post their 3DMark scores they are with AA & AF off. And when AA & AF are not off, it is mentioned along with the score.

Run 3DMark with it off and let us know how it goes. Don't forget to turn it back on for gaming though, since it makes things look pretty. ;)

I originally had it off for the test... just turned it on now cuz i didnt know if it would change things for the better

wierd.... i just got a 3303 on it.... WAY crap.... This is after i installed new drivers and with AA and AF off and the settings are on application preference

EDIT: AND my gfx card was overclocked to 391/342

Also, this may be really stupid...but what version of DirectX are you running?

im running dx9 and im only running bare minimum programs and a popup blocker which is necessary cuz my computer gets rap*d by popups for some reason.... need to format but not before all my stuff is burned

Try unplugging yourself from the internet and see if that helps. Also, run adaware and/or spybot to see if you can get rid of those pop-ups...if you haven't already.

ya i have a popup blocker thats working good.... ill try to unplug from the internet and turn off all programs... hope that gives better results, but one thing thats pissing me off is that my score is MUCH lower than before.... 3303 to 5309 or something like that?

AdAware & Spybot aren't pop-up blockers. They are programs that remove spyware, try running one of these programs and it may get rid of those pop-ups for good. :)

Edit: If you can't get rid of those pop-ups with AdAware/Spybot then you may need to setup a firewall...but let's see if you get an improved score first from being disconnected from the internet.

 ummmmm heres a lollypop. What a thread crapper. What relavince does your post ad?

Anyways. It sounds like you need to turn off windows messaging sservice. Thats how those popups come up even after running adaware alot of times. Tell me if that fixes it.

To turn off Messenger, Right Click on My Computer, click Manage. When the new window pops up, double-click Services and Applications, then double-click Services. After that look for the Messenger Service and set it to Disabled.

windows messenger has been off from the getgo so thats not the problem, i have big time spyware on my computer thats my thinking... i alwyas turn that off when i first install windows xp

Not Windows MEssenger but the Messenger SErvice. IT allows others to transmit Net send between servers and clients but its being used to send Pop-ups.

rite its windows messenger i turn that off then i go to the startup bs and i disable messenger service.... i hate both i meant to say messenger service earlier... typo

If anything, try a clean install of OS.

I would think with your system you should get like 1000 higher than you are getting. I get 6845 out of my system , and you have a better processor, better Ram and a better Vid card and a better MOBO. Just my .02

3DMark03 only benches the video card. The rest of the system means jack shit.

5500+ at default vid card speeds is about right.
