I had about 3-4 AWE32 cards at one point. Put them to the curb for "curb-shoppers" along with a bunch of other old crappy PC parts.

And the only reason was because they were super noisy/static-y.

I also put a bunch of other crappy SB cards to the curb at the same time. Most were SB-16 variants.

I'm with you, OP. 3dfx is a big reason why I am into gaming today - more specifically, building my own computers. I have been gaming on PCs my whole life; all the way back to the early '80s with games like Frogger on DOS, Wolf 3D on Windows 3.1, etc. In 1998, I upgraded my parents' Compaq Presario (333 MHz, 64MB RAM) with a Voodoo 3 2000 and a NIC so I could go to LAN parties with my friends. Two years after that, I built my first computer and took the Voodoo 3 out of my parents' Comaq and put it into my build. That card was a beast. I wish I still had it today, just for nostalgia.
 
I made a little modification that I hope is worth a foodstamp or two.

It's an ugly mf but I think it will at least not overheat again.

It'll take a while until I can test this guy because my Win 98 machine is out of commision right now. But it'll be up soon enough :)

The heatsinks are Zalman ZM-NB32J .... says on the box: "non-active cooler for ASUS A7V133" ... maybe "passive cooler" wasn't a term back then ;)
Fans are Fractal Design Silent Series R2 40mm 12v and that's why I decided to solder them to the molex header instead of using the original 5v headers
