390X2?

Is the 290X2 still looming on the horizon? I'm just curious because I'm wondering what AMD is going to be doing in terms of dual GPU cards. I was considering using 2x 390X2 in my new build when the 39X series comes out probably early-mid next year.

You realize you are speculating about the successor to a card that isn't even announced, let alone released. How could we possibly have any information on this?

I suspect that whatever follows the 290 series will be 20nm and it might be possible to do a dual GPU card with that, but I seriously doubt we will see a 290X2 without crippling those GPUs.

They managed to fit two fermi 580 GPUs on a single board. I think they could get two 290x GPUs (albeit a bit underclocked) on a single board.

They had to downclock them heavily to do that, over 150MHz per GPU, and the 580 Fermi GPU draws less power than the 290X Hawaii GPU does. So even if they do find a way to build this, it will almost assuredly be notably slower than the 290X boards.

me using a prodigy and i can only have 1 GPU, id be all over a 290x2. As long as the heatsink wasnt a complete failure. Its the only regret i have with my 290 is the cooler

290X2 was planned to be 2x 290X gpus, not 2x 290 gpus.
