3870 x2 release today

Dan, the 3870X2 JUST came out, and I already said it was one of their high end cards. Read my post again.

However, the regular 3870 IS ALSO a high end card of theirs. There is no way you can argue this. It is the most advanced board they manufacture, excluding, once again, the new 3870X2. Therefore, it is, by default, ATI's high end card.

And no, once again, there is no concrete table of what is high end, or mid range. However, it's pretty easy to deduce that whatever card is the most advanced and most expensive with each manufacturer would be considered it's high end card.

Basically, with your logic, ATI did NOT have a high end card before the 3870X2? LOL.

Ati considered crossfired 2900xt's or 3870's to be their high end solution.

Just because it is their highest performance card doesn't make it a high end card. If I start a graphics company tomorrow and exclusively cater to the under 75 dollar crowd does that make my 60 dollar card high end? No. It just means I don't make a high end (or even a midrange in this case) card. Your logic is flawed.

The 3870 is a midrange card. There is no way you can argue this.

Alright I am feeling confused with the benchmarking of this card...

I read the HardOCP review which basically puts the card noticably slower than the 8800GTX except in Episode 2, but the Toms Hardware has a review using the same games and has the 3870x2 faster in almost all of them. What's the deal?

Were different drivers used? Was there some other hold up? I mean the one thing I notice is that HardOCP's numbers seem very consistent, but Tom's are all over the place with inexplicable differences (like a games running faster at higher resolutions?!?!?).

Differences in testing methods will provide different results. I suggest reading all the information you can and look at all the testing methods and decide for yourself where the 3870 X2 stacks up against the 8800GTX and Ultra.

The [H] uses real game play to test their cards. Not benchmarking scripts or programs designed to automate the benchmarking process.

640 stream proccessors? according to Newegg's specs, REDICULOUS!!

What ATI calls stream processors and what NVIDIA calls stream processors are two very different things. ATI regards the 3870 chip as having 320 stream processors and therefore the total would be 640 for the 3870 X2.
