3000+ Winnie temperature?

Got a 3000+ Winnie @ 2.4Ghz, 1.55v. Case temperature is about 24C, CPU idle temp is around 35C, under full load it goes up to 60C. Does that seem a bit too high? I have a Zalman 7000B AlCu, used some old AS3 I had laying around.
 
Ya, 60C looks high. Im not even breaking 50C at 2.2Ghz at load and Im on stock cooling...

What is your idle/case temperature? voltage?
 
My Vcore is at default (1.48?), Im idling at 35C and my Case is at 22C.
 
AS2 and AS3 are optimized for silicone cores and small surfaces like on TB and Barton and PIII. On other hand they are too thick for IHS CPU's like Winchester, Northwood and PIV CPU's. Try to use just normal silicone thermal paste and check out temps just to see is it a AS3 problem. If it comes out AS3 aint good then use AS5 or plain silicone thermal paste.

Though on other hand Zalman 7000ALCU ain't that preformer wither. Idle it's not bad temps but He cant gett rid of load energy. IMO something like XP120 would be much better choice. If You wanna stay with Zalman see 7700cu it preforms much better though doesn't fit on all mainboards.

Yah I have a feeling it might be the AS3, I've had it for 3.5 yrs (used it on a Athlon XP Palomino). It kinda sepereated when I squeezed it out, but I mixed it up as much as I could. Think I should just try some AS5?

As far the 7000 AlCu, I read a couple of reviews that it's only a few degrees hotter than the 7700 at full load, 3 or 4 max, and maybe 1 degree hotter at idle. Are the thermalrights (xp90 or xp120) that much better?
 
Wow that does seem high, what are you using to read these temps? How did you apply you TC? Blob or cover the whole chip?

Im using the same chip, same voltage and a MUCH weaker cooler....i hit about 50C TOPS, most of the time its 48-49C under load.

PS- Im using AS2 =)
 
I'm using geil "copper" heat sink goo w/my xp-90 and i get around 95F under a load when i'm doing 2.6ghz, or 105F when i run 2.7. Sounds to me like you put the goo on too thick.
 
I think I might have used a bit too much AS3, I just coverd the whole chip with it. Perhaps it's not the best thermal compound for the application, that and it's old. I'll try some AS5 and see if it improves.

Highlife, I'm using a utility from the mobo manufactuer, it reads the temp off of the on die temp sensor.

I would use the blob method...it gave me much better results.
 
damn high temps.......my winnie 3000+ @ 2.6ghz 1.55vcore idles at 30*C and loads at 46*C with that stock heatsink and pad, case temp 28*C-32*C

Now I feel like I'm getting my money's worth out of this XP-120. According to Abit's software this thing idles at 35-37 but it never loads over 49(3000+ @ 2.43).

Interesting... seems like I was doing it the wrong way. I just covered both the HS and CPU with a thin layer of AS3. I also lifted it back up to look at it... perhaps that put alot of air bubbles in it. Sigh, I'm gonna try not to be cheap anymore and get some ArctiClean and some AS5.
