MD said:AS2 and AS3 are optimized for silicone cores and small surfaces like on TB and Barton and PIII. On other hand they are too thick for IHS CPU's like Winchester, Northwood and PIV CPU's. Try to use just normal silicone thermal paste and check out temps just to see is it a AS3 problem. If it comes out AS3 aint good then use AS5 or plain silicone thermal paste.
Though on other hand Zalman 7000ALCU ain't that preformer wither. Idle it's not bad temps but He cant gett rid of load energy. IMO something like XP120 would be much better choice. If You wanna stay with Zalman see 7700cu it preforms much better though doesn't fit on all mainboards.

Highlife, I'm using a utility from the mobo manufactuer, it reads the temp off of the on die temp sensor.

Now I feel like I'm getting my money's worth out of this XP-120. According to Abit's software this thing idles at 35-37 but it never loads over 49(3000+ @ 2.43).
