2TB harddrive for $99! @ newegg

/me inserts obligatory FYI that this is a Advanced Format Drive, so XP users and possibly others may have to take extra steps to get the drive working properly.

it seems like everywhere is starting to be that price. newegg have tax. zipzoomfly doesnt. 109 at zipzoomfly right now.

I got one at amazon lighting deal for 99.

dell had it too

Does anyone know if these "advanced format" drives work in Windows Home Server 2003? I'm thinking about buying one of these to throw in my WHS (running a bit low on space). Thanks in advance.

Wierd. I just got 2 of these and did not have to pay any taxes.

It will work fine with the jumper set.

Plus when the new version of WHS comes out there will be proper native support.

my porn collection doesnt even fill up half my current 2TB drive, do i really need another?

I just put one in my HP EX490 after formatting it in Windows 7. No problems utilizing the entire space.

In that case, you definitely need to download more. Get an all access one month pass to one of those nice sites out there... And since almost all of them have moved to HD videos, you should be able to fill your current one and the new one in no time.

Then you don't really have a porn collection. LOL j/k No, really, that's lame.

I'm tempted but I'll hold off until the next version of Home Server is released and by that point the drives will be cheaper!

Will these drives be okay for a RAID 5 setup? I seem to recall some talk about the low power drives getting seen as dead drives by the array because of their tendency to park the heads?

I think I'll wait till I can pick up a standard Hitachi or Seagate for this price so I don't have to deal with the Advanced Format and/or RAID issues.

Even aligned there does appear to be a performance hit in small writes on the Advanced Format drive.

I like where WD is going with this, it's about time someone does. I'm sure it will get better as firmware improves. For a parity raid though with many small writes involved I would go with the EADS over the EARS.

Maybe someone else though here that does have these in a raid could shine in.
These benches were however done in XP Pro and not non-4k bound OS.
