2T or not 2T

HI Guys

I cant seem to find where to change my command rate on my ram? Im guessing its in the BIOS somewhere but I cant find it.

When I bring up CPUZ that section is blank too.

Im guessing that I have massively overlooked something.

Thanks

Nick

No its defininately not there. Found all the other various timing settings for the memory, but not the command rate.

Any body else have any ideas?

I believe its also called CPC in some bioses like mine. When its off it runs 2T when on 1T i believe is the correct order. :)

PS: Mine shows the enable/disable info on the side in the help area for which is 2T and such...

No, still cant find it.

As I mentioned before, not showing what its currently set at in CPUZ or Memset.

Anyone with the same board locate it?

Any more ideas?

Thanks

its 2T and there might not be a place to change it, if you put it at 1T
A) you wouldnt see much improvement cause your running core2
B) 1T wont even boot unless you underclock your ram quite a bit.

with (semi)modern processors being as fast as they are, one clock cycle isnt going to be a slow enough turnaround for your system to be stable, its going to throw blue screens like crazy... that is if it even boots. back in the day of P3 1ghz CPUs one clock cycle is 0.001 seconds, which is enough time. if you have a processor clocked at 3.5ghz thats something like 0.0002857 seconds per clock cycle which isnt long enough for the strobe to clear, you need to wait an additional 2-3 clock cycles, which makes the time around 0.0008571 seconds which is enough

so..... dont worry about it

Er... nearly.

1GHz is one billion, or 1x10^9 clock pulses per second, which gives a time period T of 1x10^-9, or 0.000000001 seconds.

3.5GHz is 3.5x10^9 clock pulses per second, so T = 2.86x10^-10 seconds. If clock cycles were people, the population of the world would go by in less than two seconds.

I'm sure what you've said concerning memory command rate is totally correct. Just thought I'd clear up the figures.

ah remind me not to post at 10am after a hangover my math skills arent so good. but yea same idea no matter how many zeros i forget.

Tell me about it. I posted something on a board at 4 this morning and I read it back, and it was barely English... so I went to bed :p

Let me add that nearly all the Intel-based boards have no 2T option. Mine isn't there and I know of no 975X board with the ability to set 2T.

This is a moot point since I can do a 1M superpi for 15.625 seconds, compared to the piss poor 39 seconds on my A64 with PC3200 memory at 1T ;)

This was the whole reason I was trying to find the command rate. My machine does superpi at late 17`s. Thought it might be because it was set at 2t, then I thought it might be cos my chip only has 2MB cache, not 4 like its big brothers, but looking at your time on your E4300, it cant be that either.

What am I doing wrong?

Nothin, look at Xili's rig, ... well I cant tell WTF its running for FSB and memory divider, weird setup if that sig is correct

Intel C2D E4300 @ 3.38 GHz with Thermalright SI-128 and Silverstone FM121 fan.

Hmm didnt see the equivalant of PAT (on my board its called memory enhancement with normal, fast and turbo settings. It switches out some memory buffers and decreases latiencies. dropped about .3 sec off my score when I started using it. Sandra benches proved it made a difference in latiency and bandwith.

Note also that there are a lot of tricks you can use, this might be of interest if you never have looked at it.

My rig, see sig does 1M super PI in 17.4 give or take, just been benchin and playing with memory latency and PAT stuff so its pretty tuned up, (memory now running 5 4 4 12, and FSB at 473 but not long enough that I am ready to change sig) keep in mind I got a 100MHz on ya and Xili has 180HHz.

edit, LOL i did change sig, now I am stuck.

SuperPI runs well on 975's tad quicker clock for clock in this kind of app.

I have a P5B Deluxe and I'm almost positive that I'm running 1T and that it shows up in CPU-Z, but I'm at work right now. I'll check and get back to you this evening. PM me if I haven't posted by 10pm, 'cause it means I forgot.

PS - what BIOS version are you using?

No such setting in the Intel chipset.....

If you want faster superpi time, run your divider at 2:3 or 4:5 if your memory can handle it.... 4mb cpu will probably 2 sec faster at same speed....

.

Thanks for showing me this Bill, those guys take their stuff pretty seriously.

Oh, and leave my cat out of it:)

Am using BIOS version 0614. Seems to be working fine, but will using a more recent one give me better Superpi times?

Anyway, have changed the divider and timings for my ram, is now running 5-5-5-15 at 1000mhz. Thats now got me down to 17.4ish.

Thanks for the help/advice guys.

Sorry, I forgot to put the cpuxfsb there and it's currently 9x375 for your information.

And indeed, I heard the 975X chipset get better SuperPI times due to tighter timings compared to 965 numbers.
