290/290x availability thread

Ordered three Tri-X r9 290 from provantage almost a month ago. They stated shipment around Feb. 7th. Called yesterday and they said they'd get back to me within an hour via e-mail. No e-mail...Check today and orders are canceled. Called them up, they never got any of the cards and their supplier discontinued the item. Words can not describe how angry I am right now. Considering I could of ordered xfx r9 290 DD's yesterday but passed since I had the tri-x's ordered.

Back in now to find myself some r9 290's -_-....Damn this blows..

That sucks. From my experience too the Tri-X pull 970 hash vs 877 for other brands since the Tri-x have hynix memory. Might be worth it to pay extra for them somewhere else.

i'm not sure if this is true, but it seems like all my orders has been cancelled from multiple vendors regarding the 290. They mention that the product has been discontinued. Pirate Island?

Newegg has xfx 290's (reference cooler) for $599.99, "marked down" from 799.99.

Unbelievable.

ROFL. Was going to say, that's a reasonable price for a 290X - then I noticed you had written "290". Joke.

lol, I did the same thing and was like that's not a horrible price for a 290X. I now see that it was for a 290 and...yeah.

Every review site out there that gave these cards a "best bang for buck" and near perfect score needs to adjust accordingly, otherwise it's just downright misleading.

well crap amazon just tried to charge my card for 3 asus 290's but the card was declined so I guess they were about to ship. I'll have to juggle funds around

if anyone absolutely has to have one, ts a $100.00 cheaper at Amazon.....

I gotta figure out how to pay for the 6 Asus 290's amazon decided they were ready to ship me.

I wouldn't call New Egg "gouging"... but man.. they are gouging. I'm lucky I got two powercolor PCS+ R9 290 for $539 each... that's a bargain these days.

It wouldn't surprise me if AMD had low yields with the new R9's.
I remember Nvidia having similar problems with Fermi.

The lack of 290 (nonX) cards and the fact that even the early release models could be flashed to 290X models says otherwise.

Miners are buying up every 290 they can get their hands on.

Rare, but when you see a miner with 30x 290's...........

I have two 290x on order from amazon at 580 a piece, which is a great deal

The 290x doesn't require cross bridge which is big for me, I've been waiting for this a long time, and I've never had driver problems with either brands, but amd cards have always lasted long and been able to take more heat and wear before they quit

This is confusing, no idea where to post. Lol. But anyway, I just got my MSI R9 290 Gaming and I love it so far. No coil whine at all! The Gigabyte GTX 780 GHz Edition whined like crazy compared to this. I'm almost 100% sure now that this kicks the crap out of windforce cooler.

One firestrike run.

Think the Gigabyte Windforce R9 290 would suffer from coil whine, or not sure?

Am I the only one who has never had a card with coil whine and/or not able to hear it? Considering how many cards I go through on a yearly basis.

I've never had a coil whine either in any video card I've owned. The fan noise tend to drown out anything else, and I'm on a headset mostly when I play games.

But, if it becomes too distracting, I may consider an aftermarket cooler.

I heard about the coil whine. I thought pretty much all the cards have it. The only way to get rid of it completely is to watercool it.

That might explain it. Every card I have used in the last 6 years has been watercooled.

The Tri X 290 is $749 now at newegg.... To think I paid $10 more for two reference cards at launch is ridiculous. Losing a lot of respect for the egg right now.

Out of nowhere the XFX 290 DD's came in on BLT, there's 3 left... I'll mine the extra $40 or whatever the difference is heh.

http://www.shopblt.com/item/xfx-pine-technology-r9-290a-edfd-radeon-290/pinete_r9290aedfd.html

Gone just like that....

I've had a 290 and 280x on order with BLT for the last 3 weeks, and they've pushed the ETA's on both back three times already... Not looking too promising... I'll hold out one more week, and see if it get's pushed back again, and if so I'll cancel both... I've been mining with my 280x, 7950 and 7850 for a while now, and got enough crypto to start trading more than mining, and I with the $800 I'll NOT be spending on new video cards, I can invest into more crypto coin to start day-trading... ;)
