270x Crossfire or 290

I currently have 270x Crossfire set up and thinking about selling these two cards and getting a single 290. With the issues with crossfire and some games not having crossfire profiles, I'm thinking a single 290 would work better. I know the 270x CF benchmarks against a 290 are higher and better, but I feel like I am really gimped when crossfire isnt supported. I dont know what I should do and if ditching the crossfire set up for a single 290 would work out better.
 
Right now I have a single 270X and am deciding between getting a second 270X ($180) or a 290 ($280). Which would be better at 1440p?
 
the r9 270x still use the obsolete bridged cf method. even if you observed higher frames with the 270x cf solution you wouldn't be experiencing better gaming than a single moderately overclocked 290. in spite of the improvements made by amd's frame pacing algorithm, you'll still experience the occasional flutteryness indicative of microstutter. a 290 now opens the possibility of two 290s later, and with amd's superb xdma bridgeless cf method utilized here, that would be the closest thing to single gpu smoothness you can find.
 
I would always pick a single 290 over a dual 270X setup, for all the reasons that have already been mentioned. The only case for having two 270X is if an existing single 270X setup had been upgraded with a second as an 'easy' option. Even then, selling the single 270X instead to buy a 290 would have been preferable, despite the hassle.
 
You'll also get the extra ram and horsepower that would make 1440p a better gaming experience.
 
OK, I will start looking for a 290 then and sell the 270x's. I kinda figured that the 290 would be better but then a friend started telling me about crossfire 270x's blah blah blah and got me thinking. Thanks everyone.
 
No joke, a single 290 will wipe the floor with two 270x cards. It is pretty much double EVERYTHING about them. When you crossfire, you double the shaders, nothing else. When you buy a 290, you double the ram, the bus, shaders, the ROPs... It's just a much more powerful experience.
 
Working on purchasing a 290x from a member on here. I cannot wait to get the 290x. I will probally look into getting the G10 and X41 to water cool it. I have a new case coming also, a NZXT S340 and already have a corsair H100 and gotta figure out if I will have the room for another AIO for the gpu.
 
Thanks for the advice. One more question. Is it worth the extra $50 for a 290X or 970 at 1440p?
 
Really, from what I've heard, ( I don't own either) the 970 is a bit faster than the 290, but the 290x is faster again. The 970 can OC like a sumbitch, though, so if you OC, the 979 can be faster than both.
 
max oc vs max oc; we're talking about 1150mhz on the 290x vs 1400mhz on the 970; the performance is very similar with maybe a 5% lead for the gtx 970. if you even intend to crossfire though, you'd want to stick with the amd solution.
 
Just ordered a XFX Double Dissipation 290 from Newegg. I went with the XFX because I've had good luck with dealing with customer support and RMAs thru them. I am pretty excited about getting this card and seeing the difference between the 290 and the 270x CF.
