I got my new 2600 up and running.

Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3p, Bios F6.5 beta
Intel 2600k 46x multi 1.34 vcore
A-data DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.55v
Corsair H50

So far I've been able to get the clock up to 4600, I'm at a wall it seems where it won't boot any higher.
It was probably the simplest OC I've ever done, I turned it on, ran it at stock for a few minutes. Then I rebooted and set the multi to 44x, ran some tests and repeated.

I attempted to adjust the bclk but even a 1mhz change got me into a no post situation.

I'm seeing TPF on a 6900wu between 24:55 and 25:16 so far. The good part....temps are staying in the low 50's!

The Vreg and chipset heatsinks are only warm to the touch. I know I should be able to get more out of this chip. I'm just not sure what to change to get past the 46x wall I've hit. I've adjusted the voltage and read a few preliminary guides, but nothing seems to work. The one bad thing about this board is that it's a real pain to recover from a bad OC.

Overall I'm happy with it, the system is fast, responsive, and quiet, the plus side is now the SR-2 becomes dedicated. That alone will up my overall production.

And of course a couple pictures.

Thanks a lot for sharing. Very good results and I'm duly impressed by this chip.

I wanted to add that I have some minor quibbles with the motherboard. The sata ports are placed awkwardly, the sata 2 ports get blocked by the GPU in slot 2 unless its a short card. Maybe its just me, but this is the first board I've had where the sata ports are installed facing up, that makes the 90 degree cables I have rotate upwards.

The CMOS battery is blocked if a double slot card is in slot 1; Which I was being forced to remove to reset the CMOS if I had a bad OC (the reset jumper doesn't seem to be working at all). That is why the GPU is in Slot2 for now.

Don't get me wrong I've always had a soft spot for Gigabyte boards ever since my first ga-7dxr+ socket A.
But this board seems to have been engineered in a hurry. I'd recommend a different model for the time being.

can you run a normal smp unit and report your ppd?

The first WU it ran was a 6068 (non Bigadv). The recorded TPF was 2:02, with 28.5k ppd.

The seems to be the case with all the boards at the moment (not just Gigabye), but new bios updates are improving things. After an update I've got mine to 4.8ghz (1.325v) stable on an MSI GD65. I need to get some more case fans for push it further (two cores are touching 80c).

That is good, mine are around 2:10. Did you change any of the C states (I've only the cpu volts and multi).

After this is done, I'll try my first bigave..

Sorry the bigave has started now. I did try smp & gpu but it wasn't as good as I hoped, smp did take quite a big hit (didn't recall the exact figures but ~5-6k). I'm going to improve the case cooling next week, I reckon I can shave around 10c off (the top of the case is warm to the touch, yet the psu is in the bottom) and still keep it quiet. But I do want to gpu fold but I need to sort these heat issues first.

5-6k total ppd or that much off

That will generate some serious points (and heat). After a slot in the top 20?

ill proabbly need at least another big adv folder plus some.

im hoping that a duel socket 2011 mb comes out i would love to have a 16 core 32 thread machine. if no more.

your vcore says 1.068 most of what i have read says 1.35 for 4800ghz 1.5 vcore to hit 5ghz if at all

He'll be fine, he just needs the right bios. I tried a 49x multiplier a few minutes ago (same volts), but couldn't get it to stick :(

I suspect the issue with you not being about to get past the 46x multiplier is the cpu voltage.

On my Gigabyte board there is a huge voltage drop under load, I enabled the Load Line Calibration feature in the BIOS to help.

You can see the vdroop pretty easy, set your voltage to whatever you want in the bios, boot into windows and monitor it for a minute, Then fire up prim95 or something and watch the voltage on the cpu drop. If it goes too low usually prime95 will start to fail or windows will blue screen.

Enabling the LLC bumps the voltage on the cpu up during loads to compensate for the drop. Worked pretty well for me.

I did some experimenting this afternoon. I adjusted a couple settings, and raised the vcore to 1.45 in the bios, its dropping to 1.34 when loaded I didn't realize that it would drop that much. No wonder I was having problems.
I did set Load Line Calibration to enable, it didn't seem to do much however.

I got it to boot into windows at 50x, but it hard locked running linx. I'm pretty sure its stable now at 48x. Temps haven't risen above 56c so far, I'm at least safe with that.

any chance you can run smp with gpu client going.

I'll run another SMP tomorrow with GPU going. All I have in it is gtx275, but I'll post up results.

I've got all the power saving options disabled.
And I know its silly but I have the TDP watts set to 1000 and the amps set to 500 (bios limits)

Good results so far!

Is there a PLL overvolt option to enable? Most CPU's hit a wall between 47-49 without it enabled. With it enabled I was able to take a 2500k from a max of 48 to 52, where I stopped trying. It also makes the "wall" multipliers more stable! It just takes a lot of voltage and cooling to get it stable enough for folding over 4.8. I could run everything but folding at 5.1GHz with 1.48v on an ASUS P8P67 Deluxe with LLC on ultra high.

It still sucks that with every mobo manufacturer boasting about how advanced their voltage regulators are (for years) - voltages are still dipping under load

Those are excellent temps, it sounds like the cpu is a little starved.

No, not at all. I only set mine to 150 and I beleive that is limiting me now (would restart but I don't want to loose any minutes on my first bigadventure).

PS: project 2685 is now under 27mins (44k), is that good? I hear this project isn't as sweet as some of the others.

Wicked, I'm getting tpf of around 30min on a 6900 with my 2600k at 4.7 and ram timings at 9-9-9-25-1t. Any ideas?? I haven't changed any of the power draw settings or c-states, I wonder if I'm throttling...

You should raise the power draw settings for sure. You can check to see if your multi is dropping, I know real temp (seems to do) a good job of reporting the multi accurately.

What type of temps are you seeing? That might have something to do with it.

From what I understand, you should leave the C states enabled on the Asus board. I have changed all of mine, however I didn't really see a difference in times.

Hottest core is 62C under full load, I'm pretty sure heat isn't an issue. I will change the power draw and see what that does, CPU-Z shows a steady 4.7ghz though.

Early days but..

by changing the smp priority to below normal, there is very little hit running the gpu client as well. Smp has dropped to 41.5 from 44 (a get a 2k ppd drop from just using the computer) and the gtx 460 brings in 11.7k ppd.

So a grand total of 53,213 ppd!

Alright, I've got max amps (500) and max watts (255) set and intel thermal throttling disabled. I'm curious why my limits are so skewed since I would hit the watt barrier while still drawing less than 200 amps but that shouldn't matter anyway.

My Bios doesn't have the PLL voltage option needed to break past my current multiplier, I really hope Asus releases an updated BIOS like they did for the ATX boards.

Wiseguy, are you doing smp 7 or 8?

R-type if your only getting 30 min times frams on a 6900 something is very wrong. as my i7-920 has done a best time of 30:15 which is 37,000ppd @4ghz

Yeah I'm pretty much out of things to try. I just turned off the c-states and will see what I get now. I wish Asus would hurry up and release an updated Bios for this board.

I also don't know what its doing with memory, its set for DDR3 1600 at 9-9-9-24-1T in bios but cpu-z is reporting DDR3 1600 at 6-6-6-20-2T which shouldn't even be possible with this ram.

Any and all ideas welcome!

Use the Asus tools for checking ram etc, maybe they will show throttling. I hope someone compares their TPFs with different ram speeds. I think buying 2133mhz ram might make sense for folding with new prices and the Sandy memory controller, maybe RAM timings will also play a bigger role.

God I don't even want to post this its so embarrassing.

Pretty sure I found the problem, I had installed ram like I have to on my MSI and Gigabyte boards and had it running in single channel mode...

Lets see how it does now.

I'm rusty man, I rode that C2Q platform longer than I have ever for any upgrade. As long as thats the worst mistake I make I'll be alright. :p

I admit I did double check to make sure. Yes my q6600 has been excellent, but it is on it's way out, it used to have uptimes of months but has started to bsod (motherboard I beleive). maybe folding was too much for it. I will keep it as a backup, but I need something much more stable for my work (been using a 2ghz dual core laptop for the last few weeks), but it is just too damn slow.

Update on bigadv with gpu, the smp client slarted slowly dropping, eventually totalling 50k together. This maybe caused my heat as the case temp is higher than I would like (the fans an't getting heat out of the case fast enough). But some better fans are on there way!

I'm showing much better than expected results. I'm running stable at 49x, with 1.4v. It turned out that I didn't have "Internal CPU PLL Overvoltage" enabled. Auto doesn't = enabled. Although it would seem that the H50 is getting close to maxed out. Temps are creeping up.

I'm getting 23:47 tpf on my current 6900. Its actually getting faster tpf's than my SR-2 is right now. Of course the SR-2 is running a 2684.
Screen shot for fun.
