2500+ overclocking advice

i am looking to overclocking my 2500+. i was thinking of getting a cooler off swiftech. but how do they compare to thermalright + zalman?

also anyone got good guide and advice on overclocking it?

thermalright all the way, i recomend the slk-900a and a enermax adjustable 80 mm fan
 
ugh. i said i am thinking of buying SWIFTECH - how does it compare thats COMPARE to thermalright and zalman.
 
how do you:

lock the agp/pci?

move the fsb up?

raise the vcore if it becomes unstable?

any good apps to look at for info?

i am thinking of using a swiftech heatsink w/ an advised fan off here.

please can i have the loud and quiet option?
 
Get one with a potentiometer say an Enermax, they pack the punch on their max and are quite silent on their lowest. Always an extra to have full control over your dominions too :)

yup it's 3200+, 10.5x200 is 3000+. Don't worry though, you should be able to go 11x right away no real danger nor difference just that you run in a bit higher fsb(which your processor was actually made to run in) :)
 
The thermalright is better than the swiftech. The zalman (all copper) may be better or worse than the swiftech depending on the fan used for the swiftech.

Sure, but why pay the same or more for an inferior product?

Do you like the look or something?

Get the sp-97 if you want the best.
 
i don't think its inferior. i like the idea that its light weight and the fan retention mechanism seems better than the paper clips thermal right uses :). i also like the method they use to install the heatsink.

i justthink the thermalright's and zalmans are too heavy.
 
You think a half inch thick piece of copper with tons of aluminum pins coming out of it, isn't?

The sp-97 uses a back plate to mount through the mobo holes. (secure) Those metal clips are far from paper clips, the type of steel and design do the job well.

Temps are temps, and the swiftech is inferior.
 
for that small an oc just pay 11$ (us) and get a tr2tt m2 they work grate and arent overpriced

got a 1700+(133x11)@2600+(200x10.5) and its working grate with only a small volt increse (its at 1.7 from 1.65) i never go over 53c even running toast,prime95 and superPI all at the same time

not the best but dose the job and is a grate price :)

if u want something slitly better the vantec areo flow is aboue 3c dif using the same paist

they bouth use tmd fans to me thats a plus they make ALOT less noise and have almost no dead zone(area where the hub of the fan blocks airflow normaly over the chips die)

i know there not the best but for the price well they work gr8


p.s. my buddys 2500+ is at 2500mhz using one of these fans +1% v and its never over 52c

In fact, the swiftec weighs MORE than SLK-947U.
 
also - can someone reccomend a fan with "no dead zone". i'd like it to be quiet. looking for enough cfm to cool a 3200+.

I think only fans that have those are the Jet and Aero ones from Coolermaster, they should do 3200+ but don't expect any xxtreme performance when ocing..
 
ahh ok. i wouldn't want one of those then. i am looking at the li lan (spelling?) case. but will it support BTX?

so ignore the deadzone thing.
 
So the SP-97 IS the best huh? If I were to buy it for my 2500+, which fan should I go with? I'm looking for a big overclock. Does the SP-97 support just 80mm fans, or does it also support 92mm? I can hook up the cpu fan to a rheobus, so which fan would be the best for performance/noise-level?

i bought this Spire CPU-Fan WhisperRock IV

under $10 best heatsink i ever used. copperbase and aluminium seems to be the best combo.
 
A case can't be both ATX and BTX if that answers your question..

EvoHock: SP-97 fits a 90mm fan, I'd go with like a papst or something for a good blow while enough performance to cool your unit.
 
when does BTX come out? and how would it effect me if i bought an expensive lan li case?
 
Long time from now, do not worry about it.

Never, ever, think ahead in the Computer buying world. You'll end up waiting forever.

But PCI-Express is out soon! But BTX is out soon! But the 10GHz Pentium Socket X1 is out soon! But Nanotechnology is quickly developing! .... etc, etc, etc.
 
teh angrybusdriver is right, not much point in thinking ahead and BTX will be a flop anyway if you ask me(cases look so silly :p).
Just get your nice lian-li, when BTX is out you'll be looking around for a new system anyway.

dumping of pci slots, dumping of legacy, moving towards serial ata, improved airflow design with the cpu being at the front of the case. smaller, lighter.

i don't need a lan li. but i would like one. if i get one it has to last dude to its high cost. i can just about make do till feb next year.

yes i agree with the moving along thing. but socket 939 athlon 64's are comming out. pci X is comming out, 16X dvd writer is comming out in a few months. like july at the latest for 16X dvd writer and pci X.

i'm happy to wait till this time next year and make do. lan li seems to expensive on the face of things. no pci x support etc.

it cost £90 in the uk. i could go with sky hawk instead.
 
Who am I? well, i've been a computer entusiast for the last 7 years of my life, now if you don't want to take sound advice then don't but quit with the bumping threads nobody is going to answer your questions if you continue to act as rude as you have in this thread. Why ask for advice when you're not going to take it anyway? bah.

the questions about heatsinks were settled ages ago. try reading? how can i keep track of my thread if there is no marker next to it so it tells me its my post or i've posted on it. i can't search. so in order to keep track i have to bump it or it will be 3 pages back by the end of the day.

3. lol. who says. dude i have my own opinions. i am the only one with those opinions but still :). i don't have to do whatever anyone tells me.

amd regulations disagree with the advised "heatsinks" *cough* are not advised and are all 2x the regulated weight.


i've already bought a heatsink. cost me £7 instead of £50. and i can OC my cpu to 3200+ with no problems for the last 48 hours.
