Nice deal, now if I could just find a CPU in that same price range I'd be set.

Seriously, this got me looking and used 1150 chips are still stupid high, even for 2c/4t i3 parts.

Yeah, I saw the same thing. Was looking for a lower power option for my i7 965EE server and thought this could be it but at the price of even used CPU's, it's just not worth it yet.

For me, I'm looking at a media machine and secondary gaming rig, so maybe a new pentium G3258 will be good enough.

Just bought this and the case for my son to have his own computer. Have a g3258 laying around and a 290x so should be a pretty solid computer for him to play his games on. Thanks OP..

FYI if you have a microcenter around they have the g3258 for around $50, a g1840 for $35, or my favorite (way overpriced for a deal like this but 4c8t) Xeon 1231v3 for $209.

The Xeon idea is a good one but I don't see any cheap one's on the supported CPU list that would make it a worthwhile purchase. I just keep wanting this to work!

Ah, nice - but not for me. I need more than just a pair of 1x PCI-E connections since I'm going to running an HBA in this - the media machine is also the storage device, and that's going to fit into an 8x slot.

I bought this without looking for 1150 chips and now I'm debating cancelling my order. I was planning on finding a cheap I5 but they are still $$$. Will a 3258 work well for entry level gaming on this board? I'm putting together a loaner rig to try and convert some friends from console to PC.

I would think that a g3258 would work pretty well when paired with a good gpu at least in 1080p situations. I have a g3260 with a rx 470 and have had a pretty good experience. I would say that you probably loose any overclocking ability with the b85 chipset and you might be hindered a bit if the game engine can use more than 2 cores but I have not really run into this yet. Maybe the only problem that I have run into is the forza 6 demo/beta that for some reason requires at least an i3 and 4 threads to even install.

I didn't have any issues with games with my G3258 @ 4.5ghz. This board should let you overclock the G3258 some , I believe it's limited to 1.2v . Hope I can get 4.2ghz out of it. Be fine for my son playing at 1080p with a 290x.

    Yup.

I found the least expensive options are used / off-lease mini towers that have everything stuffed inside already, i3 or i5 Ivy Bridge (it must have USB 3.0, otherwise it might be a much older processor platform)

There are compromises with these off-lease business towers including limited case space, smaller 220w power supplies and no manual overclocking.

Depending on which processor you choose, prices are between $120~?. You'll find a bunch of these towers at Amazon, Newegg, BestBuy, Ebay, Microcenter and i think Walmart.com.

Arent some games starting to check for 4 threads and failing to launch if you dont have it? I had a G4400 and it played my games perfect... but then so does my cheap AMDs...

Far Cry 4 wouldn't run without at least 4 logical processors.

Oh, wow... this is news to me. I guess I've got to get nothing less powerful than an i3 now. Thanks for the heads up. I imagine more and more AAA titles will be this way too.

Forza is the same way it will just hang. Also had an issue with battlefront not starting. With the g3258.

2C/2T = no go on those games that need 2C/4T minimum. Otherwise sounds like a good deal on the cheap.

If nothing else, it's a cheap way to get your foot in the Hackintoshing door, since you pretty much have to go Intel for that.
