My PSU doesnt have a 8pin connector and has the 20pin and extra 4pin plug.
I bought an Abit IP35-e board. I was reading the online PDF manual for the board. It said I can use the 20pin in the 24pin plug and also the 4pin in the 8pin plug and be ok. Is this something I shouldnt do long term.
My PSU is a 500w 12v 34a

ohh I am going to have 8800GT and a C2D E6750 4x1gig ram

Or should i order the 20-24pin adapter and the 4pin molex to the 8pin plug before I put my new PC together.

You will be ok, the adapters are not going to cause your power supply to put out any more current anyway. But it is getting time to look at power supplies after your wallet recovers. If you had an older high powered supply and a quad and say an ulta card the adapters would spread out the high current draw over more motherboard traces and would be a good idea, You are not in that situation.

The GT is not the power hog of an Ultra and you have a dual core not a quad so you will be ok. Going to a quad would be a good time for a new supply with 40+ amps of +12.

Hook it all up and fire it up, during the normal testing (orthos or whatever) and at your cpu speed you intend to run the machine at, let it get good and warmed up. Then stick you hand over the PSU exhaust in the back. It should be warm but not "real warm" if it gets to feel like a hairdryer on the low heat setting, time for a new supply. Just a rough rule of thumb.
