I just ordered the 2405 on Monday, and it's being delivered today already! I must've lucked out. FYI for those of you in the US market, I managed to have Dell take an additional $60 and waive the $19 handling fee--this is all after the pre-existing 25% off. It ended up $764.25 before tax.
I also just upgraded the vid. card to a x850 Professional.

So 2 quick questions please :)
1. What's the most I should pay for a DVI cable? Any thoughts where I could get one from?
2. Has anybody tried mounting it on a wall? How do you like it? I'm thinking of doing so in our office, but wonder if it might not be too small to be mounted.
3. Should I bother purchasing a High Definition AV Pack for my Xbox? Will it look any prettier on this monitor than on my CRT 32" tv?

Thanks all! I can't wait to install it all tonight ...

1) The cable shipped with this panel is single-link. There are some reports that a dual-link will give you a better refresh...but...who knows. Technically, Single link shouldn't support 1920x1200 but they have done some funky things to fit it in.

2) Nope, I haven't tried this, but I'm sure it would be cool. Make sure its secured well. Its not heavy like a CRT, but it isn't feather light.

3) YES...YES...DEAR GOD YES. I put my regular XBox on this thing and even that looks much better. This monitor can do 1080p through the component inputs. The only problem you have is you'll need to route your audio to another device. I run my 2 audio jacks into an adapter that makes it a microphone jack. Then, I run it into my sound cards audio input and play it over my computer sound system. The affect is 100x better then any sound from a TV system. However, if your TV is HD, you might keep it there for the screen size. However, if it isn't...*Definitely* get the hd back and run it to this. XBox runs at 720p which is lost on a standard non-HD TV. It will look like poopy unless its on an HD capable screen.

Not sure where you got the dual link info from, but as far as any of the specs on the 2405 show it's only single link. 1920x1200 is the max resolution supported by single link DVI on widescreen panels so I also don't know where you got the idea that "they have done some funky things to fit it in".

Just seems like a waste of money to buy a dual link cable for a monitor that doesn't support it, especially when it comes with a cable already. *shrug*

Im not sure on this dual link situation either. I believe they shipped the proper cable with the unit.

Well, single link is 165 MHz pixel rate. With the 5% blanking interval you get a max resolution of 1600 x 1200 at 81Hz refresh, 1920x1200 at 68Hz and so on. According to what I've read you can even run the IBM T221's native resolution of 3820x2400 on single link DVI, it just runs at 13Hz.

Exactly...I was just looking for this info myself. Basically the cable can run the LCD just fine at native res and 60Hz.

the only dell the runs on a dual link is the new 30" display. its res is 2560*1200.

I think you guys may be right on the dual-link vs single. I had read some posts about people supposedly getting dual-link cables to improve refresh...but after looking at the pin-outs of the Dell 2405, I think its only single link input on the monitor itself.

Yes basically 1920*1200 @ 60Hz is near the max of single link DVI. Therefore it is a good match. If they wanted the dell to do more they would have went dual link. I think people are harping on your "do funky things"... nah it's just near the max. That said, it's also likely 60Hz is what they feel comfortable the LCD can do at 1920*1200. There is no need for dual link here. i.e. The cable is not holding back the monitor either. There is no need for dual link because hi res LCDs at 1920*1200 won't be getting 75Hz anyways. With response time sometimes north of 20ms it would be silly.

Basically, Dual link DVI would be handy if you wanted to overclock the thing. :p And the pixels can't keep up anyways.

Thanks everyone for the responses to my initial questions. The monitor arrived yesterday and just installed us (was having pbls updating the vid. card). It does look beautiful, though it is a little painful on the eyes at 1920x1200!

Bummer that contrast can't be adjusted using DVI--is that because it auto-adjusts the picture?
