I want to buy a 24" LCD in Europe.
After buying and returning a HP LP2475w due to dead pixels and other issues i am wondering if there maybe is a better display more suited to my needs.

I am sitting close to the display, around 50-60cm usually, viewing angle and backlight bleed are important issues.
It should have a non retina-burning minimum brightness, preferably well below 100 cd/m² to work comfortably at extended periods of time in a dark room.
I'd prefer it to have HDMI, Displayport and Component inputs but i suppose that could be solved using a input switcher or upscaler.
Built-in Pivot capability is also very important, though could also be solved using a wall mount and software.
It should excel at text rendering and video playback.

I'll likely try and give the HP LP2475w another shot when i find a hardware revision 133/143 F/W 68 model which hopefully resolves the issues i had with my GIG111/F/W 44 model.
I'm just wondering, are there other LCD's that size which fit the above criteria?
Eizo's S2431 and HD2442 seem interesting, NEC's Wuxi Series appears to fail due to the minimum brightness, and i'm not certain i want to spend an additional 500€ for their spectraview series just to unlock the hardware profiling.

Also am wondering if there may be new models close release worth waiting for.
Resources for announcements are also appreciated, But I do want to buy within the next three months.

Thanks for the input.

You may want to consider the Dell 2209WA.

It is an eIPS panel with excellent viewing angles, good text quality, standard gamut (sRGB) and low input lag. It only has DVI and VGA, but it can also do 1680x1050 at 75 or 72 hz which makes it a great monitor for video playback due to the rate which can be set eXACTLY 3 times 24hz. It is also able to do 50hz according to prad.de's review for European video standards too, as you have indicated you are in Europe.

The minimum brightness at default contrast is 120cdm/2, BUT at lower contrast can be set to "down to" 80 cdm/2 at 50 contrast, and still get good color accuracy.

It has a height adjust, and pivoting stand and can be easily rotated. I realize it's not a 24" @ 1920x1200 resolution, but it "ticks all your other boxes" and so far, I love mine.

Otherwise you may want to wait a bit for the LG 2420P which is a 24" with 1920x1200 resolution, HDMI, DVI, and VGA, and will ONLY be released in Europe (apparently). I believe it will be out by summer, so you may want to wait for reviews to filter in.

Best o' luck in your search.

I'm quite intrigued by the new LG 24" displays, appears it may be worth waiting after all.
Just too bad the LED backlit model is priced out of my comfort zone, on paper it looks better than the XL24 oldtimer from Samsung.
Thank you very much for your input and mentioning that series.

I'll be waiting for summer and hope for the best.

:eek::eek:

10e, hopefully you did not post this "discovery" in the 2209 thread....

NEC WUXi monitors can actually achieve bretty low brightness. OK, the black on my 2690 is not the best I'v seen on LCDs, even some TNs are better, but brightness can be set pretty by lowering contrast. I know 2490 is better in this regard as well as 2690 version 2, but the newer verison lacks the true-wide polarizer :(

Interesting, thanks Biges, I'll keep the lack of Polarizer for NEC's 2690 WuXi2 in mind, i found the backlightbleed in my hp disturbing, brightness on that model at 0/0 contrast was still way beyond anything i deem comfortable.
I was under the impression only SV models allow to dial down the brightness with hardware profiles. wasn't aware that contrast had such an impact.
For now i'm anxiously awaiting reviews for LG's LED IPS panel.

You can also tune down the maximum brightness with a profile, but not the minimum black.
