is refurbished that bad for monitors. I've never had any problems buying refurbished items, and aren't they suposed to be repaired to the original condition.
 
I think the problem for refurbished monitors is: why was it returned? Was it a subjective panel issue (dead pixels, uneven backlight etc.)? Did the service tech agree that it warranted panel replacement - in which case you'll be fine - or did they think it was "fine" and sent it back out again?
 
Response time of the BenQ is 5ms opposed to the 2ms of the LG. Both are good enough for gaming though. Both BenQ and LG make good LCDs.

I've own refurbished CRT before and never had an issue with it. YMMV.

- Has 1:1 pixel mapping and aspect ratio controls
- HDMI can actually be used properly with a console like PS3 or Xbox 360
- Good calibration for TN monitor and standard gamut so no over saturated colors like the Acer
- Nearly zero input lag vs. Acer's average (at best)
- Decent contrast ratio and black levels
- Matte screen vs. the Acer being glossy
- New vs. refurb

A refurb can be a factory repaired model, or simply a return because the buyer didn't like it. It may have been perfect or it may have flaws like dead pixels, backlight issues, etc...

Not saying a new monitor won't have problems, but another plus is that the BenQ's seal can be easily opened with a hairdryer and you can return it to 'em as un-opened probably easier than the Acer due to their generally draconian return policies on LCDs.
