I'm looking for a 17", 24-bit panel, approx. 25ms LCD. I was wondering if you guys knew of which brands have 24-bit panels. It seems like all the panels I've been reading about on the forum is focused a lot more on faster response times and 19" and larger screens.

I'm planning on using it for basic image manipulation, web design, and gaming. I enjoy a good FPS, RTS, or RPG, but I'm not too worried about ghosting too much. The main reason for the LCD would be more desk space.

My price range is about $300-$500.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the suggestion! I was actually considering it today. I'll probably run out to Fry's tomorrow and have a look around. Saw the 172x from Monitorsdirect.com for $430 and which definately got me interested.

After looking for a monitor all day at different websites, I noticed that almost all the monitors out are 16.2 million colors (18-bit). Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. I'd settle for a non 24-bit LCD if I can't find one. Thanks again for your suggestion!

It is 18-bit. Then again, most of everything in my price range is 18-bit. Oh well, that's life.

A few monitors I was considering:
Samsung 172X
Samsung 710T
Viewsonic VP171B
NEC LCD1760NX

Something a bit cheaper would be nice though. DVI is always a plus. If I can't find anything that's 24-bit in my price range, I might drop down to the $250-400 range or so. I saw the lower end Dell 17" LCD and a Hyundai 17" off Outpost.com each for about $300 and seriously considered those.

I currently use my laptop (Dell D600, 1400x1050) to do my more serious work (programming, web design, research, writing papers, etc.) The new LCD will serve more for gaming and (slightly) better color production for image work.

Hopefully a 6800GT will fit somewhere in my budget too!
