So the 22" LCD's I've been looking at are the samsung 225bw, Sceptre x22wg, Westinghouse LCM...somethingorother, Acer AL2216wbd, BenQ FP222W, and the Viewsonic VX2235WM. Just for fun I linked all manufacturer site descriptions.

edit: Added Gateway

What I've gathered about them specwise that is notable (ie...something the others don't have)
Most of them have 16.7m colors...which from what I gather here (far from an expert) means that they are 8bit panels...unless it's 16.7m with dithering. So if it isn't noted I found it had 16.7m colors.

So if anybody has anything to add I'll keep editing my first post with the rest of the found info. Or if there's a model I just completely missed let me know as well.

I just purchased the Gateway 22" at BB with all my Reward Zone points, discounts and gift cards (can you say $150 out of pocket?) and I love it. Wouldn't mind though if it was 1900 x 1200 or whatever that resolution is like my 17" Dell laptop. But it sits at the perfect viewing distance on my desk so in the end I don't think about it. Also there is a bit of light bleading through the top and bottom, but I don't really mind at all when I am gaming because that's not where my eye's are looking and that means it's not distracting. Anyways, Component, DVI Analog, S-Video, Composite hookups, NO built in speakers which I think is great, and PIP, you can't go wrong. I wanted the Viewsonic 22" but tfor $50 more I get all that and HDCP and DCDi. Not many others with all those features for that price. BF2, HL2, Flight Sim X are all gorgeous.

Oh, and the menu system is slick. The menu and power button are LED with touch sensitive to activate. Actually you barely have to touch the "buttons". Then when you exit, the LED's disapear. Has Day/Night LED brightness levels. So in the end this panel is innovative in features and minimalist in design. Very classy...

Don't forget the Chimei 221D its cheap as chips and it is a quality screen.

On sale for 299 as well...bonus. Also I looked for a while and couldn't find anything on the manufacturers website about it.

Looks like another 22 joined the market. Cheap too.

Added the Asus, HP, and the LG. Honestly i think i'm going to wait for some reviews of the LG before I make a purchase now.

I added some of the new ones that just came out. I also added prices. The prices are all from reputable dealers but I didn't feel like linking them...oh well. I found them by froogle.

As of now, every 22' on the market is a TN panel. Not a single one is true 8-bit. Although most of them are marketed as 16.7 million, this is achieved by 6-bit + dithering. The new LG 22' that has recently been announced in Asia is rumored to be a true 8-bit, but this is not yet confirmed and everyone is waiting with bated breath.

Oh...didn't know they were all 6bit...I updated it.

Yup, I just moved from a 19" full screen (Samsung 930b) to this 22" wide screen. Its brighter, has a better contrast ratio, and its a wide screen :D

I can actualy play Doom 3 on an LCD now, lol

You think you could add which monitors support 1:1 Pixel mapping? if not is there an easy way I could find out for myself? thanks in advance.

I'll try and figure out which have 1:1 pixel mapping. If anybody could tell me which ones support 1:1 I'll throw that up there as I really don't know...i was just compiling a list.

As the the eizo...didn't know they had one out...i'll look around for it and throw it up there.

New Gateway FPD2275W here and it has 1:1

I bought the VX2245WM from a local Fry's.

Pros:
- 3 Year Manufacturer's Warranty (this is versus the 1yrs that come with the HP and Westinghouse monitors (haven't looked at the other warranties))
- Brilliant Display, although it's only 700:1 CR, it looks amazing.
- 5MS response (which seems to be the standard between the 22" line up)
- If you are an iPod fan-boy... you'll like the dock station, comes with the fittings for All gens of the ipod including iPod mini, and nano.

Cons:

- Bulky bezel/base design.
- The Dock for the ipod works... some of the time
- The audio out jacks are finicky and required some adjustment with the plug. I tried two different cables on this as well as several headphones, and it still only put out stereo sound some of the time. This goes for both the Headphone jack and audio in jacks.
- No height adjustment.
- No HDCP

....
Extra cons that make me weary:
Well over 1" backlight bleed through on both top and bottom... It's ridiculous.
3 Light Dead pixels after about 5hrs of use.

Viewsonic support told me to take it back to the retailer... which was very discerning, since it ends up at Viewsonic anyways. They have a 48hr turnaround time on replacing monitors.
I'm considering a different model/brand after this experience.

If i didn't find that somebody could verify that it did 1:1 then I didn't put it (I searched google and quite a few forums about it). I also believe that somebody on this forum specifically stated that the 225bw did not do 1:1 pixel mapping.

Don't know about the Acer...since it just has VGA/DVI, not many people are buying it for xbox/ps3/whatever, so nobody is testing if it's 1:1...I could be way of but I just haven't seen it yet.

Added the KDS and Dell.

Just a note, the KDS says it's HDCP and 2ms response time...I've been burned by KDS before and am not a fan (I'm trying to keep the first post un-opinionated), and I hesitate to believe the specs they have listed.

Am I the only one that just really can't get excited about any of the 22" panels? For the same res (1680x1050) I would rather have a good 20.1" S-IPS or P-MVA panel...or a 24" S-PVA that is capable of 1080p. All of the 22's are using various TN panels which is why the prices are at or below the 20" lineup. I have 2 very good 20" WS panels and the extra 2" of screen real estate doesn't seem worth making a switch..

edit- I guess they are nice and impressive to people coming from a 17-19" lcd or crt...but I'm a little jaded now I suppose.

I sure do appreciate the extra realestate on the 22" vs my 20". I also like the higher contrast ratio...and the HDMI input, as well as the USB hub and audio jacks. So i guess thats one thing.

Well, if you're going from a lower end TN 20" to a 22" then it probably is better....I have a S-IPS 2007FPW and a Acer F-20 that I wouldn't trade for any of the 22"'s that I've seen. My goal is to get a good 24" panel for my next monitor..

My goal is another 22"...and a 24" (24 in the middle 22's on the sides), but i'm waiting to see LG's 22", and get some decent reviews on Asus's 22", before i ever buy another...i'd like to replace some of the junky monitors i've got floating around with a few of my lcd's.

I'm thinking of recommending my uncle get a Dell 228FWP as his new monitor because of the incredible deal Dell has in Canada on them right now. The size to price ratio on these things is great.

However, with him coming from a CRT, I'm a little worried about how he'll handle the issue of blacks and colour reproduction, as apparently 22 inch panels aren't the best for this (from what I can see they use very similar panels in all mainstream 22 inchers). I'm especially worried because the colour reproduction and blacks on my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, which is only a few weeks old, are pretty poor compared to the CRT on my desktop, Far Cry looks slightly washed out on it and the deeply shadowed bits in F.E.A.R. lose a lot of detail. Granted, that's a laptop panel, which is why I want to ask your opinions of how the 22s stack up against a CRT in this regard. Opinions on how the panels handle "worst case scenarios" would also be appreciated. This will be primarily a gaming machine although I can see the occassional photo or something being edited, which also worries me a bit since I would assume colour accuracy would come into play here.

Can someone confirm or deny if the Samsung 225BW has 1:1 pixel mapping?

I'm getting desperate here... I can't find a 22" TFT with 1:1 pixel mapping, HDCP, below 8ms response time and decend colours/contast for the PS3 I want to buy. And to make matters worse I live in Europe and I can't find some of the TFTs people talk about here.

I ,ve only had one lcd a [benq 17 lcd] and I had found no faults with it,now I want to upgrade to a [22in lcd],I read most reviews on 22in lcd's ...I dont plays games just regular stuff ....pics.internet..I down to the ..sceptre 22in...new 22in benq....and viewsonic2 2in can you guys shed some light on my choices

Wow...totally forgot about this thread. I should probably update it with some of the new information eh?

determid they are all tn panels and are of similar picture quality...it seems that they have similar backlight bleed as well. Personally if I were you I would wait for the new LG and Samsung to hit the market before purchasing. They are both supposed to be very good. You should probably factor into your budget a new stand as well since the majority of the stands that come with them suck.

well I like the ....Benq....and the Sceptre ....help me freom there my budject fits those two the Sceptre has the 1000ratio...Benq700 which would you choose and why....thanks
