20D, 30D or wait for 40D?

I been looking at some dslr, at the moment Adorama has a deal on the 20D refurb, it goes for $750kit and they used to have bodies for $650 in the past, they also have a 30D kit for $950, I missed out on the double rebates. Should I go with a 20D refurb or 30D refurb or wait and purchase a 40D when it comes out this fall? My idea was get the 20D and sell it at a small loss when the 40D releases. What do you guys think?
Lenses I like so far are the 50mm 1.8 prime and the 70-200 F4 L IS.

there is no 40d so you need to stop listening to rumors

just get a xti or xt and youll be fine and save money

Tried them, a little on the small side for my taste, I have long fingers, last finger does not enjoy hanging solo.

Then the Xti with the battery extension is a good option.

If it was my funding, I would opt for the Xti and get the 40D when it comes out.

Also ge the remote, its worth it.

I'd get a 20D over the XTi. You should consider getting a wider lens, you'll be pretty limited if you only have a 50 and 70-200

the 20d is outdated and the xti has better af and resonce then the 20d

the 30d or 20d are almost the same size as the xti if you need a bigger grip youll need one for the others also.

get the battery grip and its the best

ive seen a xti take as good a pic as on a 5d

its the photographer not the camera

What are you using now? The time between now and fall amounts to a LOT of pictures! (the whole season for me :( ) If it were me, I would get whatever is current now, skip the next generation and consider upgrading the following one.

20D or 30D. I would buy now so you can enjoy it vs waiting. I doubt there will be any improvement over the 30D except maybe 10.2mp and that crappy dust remover that does not work.

Down to business, the XTI is a nice camera but I don't find it comfortable at all, it weights more than the 30D with the battery grip so I would rather get a 20/30D, it's better built, and the controls are nice, I am not sold on the xti's sensor cleaning shaker, it's junk, only Olympus has gotten anywhere decent when it comes to sensor shakers, Sony and Pentax are as guilty as Canon at this. I don't want to go with 10mp and then sacrifice noise levels, the 20/30D are untouchable unless you go to a 5D or a mark II series body. The xti is a nice camera, but it just does not go with me too well.
Why I am even thinking about the upcoming model? The new model should be out this fall, since it is due for replacement. Things could come in new setup is a new 10mp sensor with cleaner ISO than the 20/30D, ISO 6400 clean similar to the mark III, 2 more a/f points to distinguish it from the XTI, the X0D models used to have 2 more a/f points, a nicer or larger viewfinder. Things they could screw up in are the shaker if it's useless just adds another thing that could break, and if they screw up with having the new unit noisier than the 30D.
Why I even looked at refurb?
It's a bit more affordable than new, I can add a 3-4yr mac warranty for about $40, and it's as good as new, my friend had a refurb 20D, looked good as new, everything in the box but it had a refurb label from Canon on the box. Adorama sells their refurbs from Canon. My idea was save a lot and go with a 20D some of the things I don't need, I could always go with a 30D, If I go with the 20D I can always sellout when the 40D comes and upgrade. It's a tough one, save a little or save a lot, and what features I need.
Main difference from 20D to 30D are spot metering, redesigned shutter to last longer, a flash to match it, folders go up to 1,000 files per folder, larger screen, muffled shutter, step ISO. Another alternative is wait a little until they announce another Canon rebate deal.
And guys please no more xt and xti, tried them before, does not work with me, not comfortable at all, even with grip it's odd.

Seems like you've researched pretty well. I'd look at your budget, and if the 20D allows you to get better glass now, then go that route. If you feel like waiting there'll probably be a rebate on the 30D this summer, but it'll still be more than you'd spend on a used one or a used 20D.

It'd be awesome if they could get a usable ISO 6400 like the MKIII but it might be hard to do with the smaller sensor.

your full of bull

The 40D is scheduled for release later this summer....
if you can wait, wait for the Canon 40D for its image stabilization...
The 30D is a superb camera....

I concur. Get what is current and, skip one generation. I did that with the D70 series and, opted for the D80. I bought a D50 to tide me over. You can do the same with your choice. Id say get the 30d and, wait for the replacement to the 40d to come out. That way you are satisfying your photo jones for a year or, so. :D

Got a source on the IS or the release date? I can't see Canon moving to in-body IS given their current marketing stance.

Unless you have a bunch of Canon lenses, I suggest the Pentax K10D. It's priced more in line with the XTi, but the camera body is more in line with the EOS 5D. Very sturdy, quite big, and weather proof seals and whatnot. It has built-in image stabilization, and way more on-body settings than the XTi. I am exceptionally satisfied with mine.

40D is coming, it is just a matter of time.

But I doubt it will have in body IS, canon does not do that, the IS is on the lens and it would be stupid for them to go in body. Also, the dust shaker on the XTI has never been said to cause any issues. It only runs in the first few milleseconds you turn the camera on anyways. It also will not run if you try and take a picture right away, so in other words it never screws with your shots. The 40D is supposedly going to have it as well.

Some decent 40D rumours that I have heard a lot of places:

Rumours yes, but a 40D is most likely coming. They have to follow the 30D up with something :p

Im not sure how great in body reduction is. Now if they would make it both in body and, lense, then that would be the shit.

Well, just remember that when the 40D gets announced, the used market is going to be flooded with 20Ds and 30Ds, because quite a few people will be looking to fund an upgrade, just like you. Besides that, the 30D is probably going to be getting a price drop of around $100 new, which will probably further lower resell value of the 30D, and therefore the 20D as well. Just something to think about. I would probably do just as you plan on, going for the cheapest body and focusing on getting good glass (those are pretty solid lenses you picked out). I'm just saying the loss on the 20D might be a bit more after the 40D shakes up the market.
