2005FPW getting fixed?

Well since the 2005FPW came out, alot of people complained about the back lighting and etc. Well since the 2405FPW came out, I hear nothing but good reviews about it, and that Dell fixed all the problems that the 2005FPW had. Does anyone know if Dell is planning on fixing the 2005FPW anytime soon? I would like one, the 2405FPW is way to big for me and expensive I might add. But if the 2005FPW is not going to get fixed, and have all those problems most people complain about, I would just get a regular 20 in flat panel.
 
I don't know if they are gonna be totally fixed or not but they are improving. The pictures that people post of their backlighting is usually REALLY exaggerated from their camera. You can't really see it with your naked eye. Not saying in all cases that the picture is wrong but if that is scaring you away from the lcd I really don't think it should.
 
I just want to let you know that I was a little hesitant a couple weeks ago when I was considering the purchase. I was optimistic and went for it (plus it helped that it was $506 shipped.) Anyways, the monitor is absolutely perfect and stunning. Not one single dead pixel or any backlighting issues. After using this monitor, I realized what backlight issues are because the CRT I used before this monitor was plagued by that problem, i just hadn't noticed it. You shouldn't regret the purchase.
 
I've been lingering here for some time, using the various posts and threads on the 2005FPW as research. After considering and almost getting two L90D+, based on all the negativity surrounding the Dell, when the price dipped below $500 ($496 shipped), I changed my mind and decided to take a chance on this.

What arrived yesterday was a perfect display, beautifully dark when all black and not a single dead pixel.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say they've gotten better and these newer displays are solid.
 
To those who have just received their 2005FPW's: Look on the back and see what revision it is. Does anyone know of any coupon codes for this monitor that are still active? I couldn't afford the $500 when it was really cheap, but now that I can it's like $630 :(

I just to thank you very much for passing on this code. I just ordered the 2005FPW for $486.75 shipped!!!!

Don't know if I will have problems with it or not, but I am pretty excited about getting a 20" monitor for less the $500.00 I think it will go nicely with my 22" Viewsonic monitor.

I received my 2005FPW a few weeks ago. It was a February 2005 REV A01, yet it had 3 dead pixels and backlighing issues in the bottom 2 corners and the top-right of the display. I'm still waiting for a replacement, as Dell seems to be out of stock at the moment. I'm hoping that they are re-engineering the 2005 so that they won't have any problems with the new batches
 
^ That sucks you had those problems on a Feb revision. I just ordered one and not to sound mean but, I hope I have better luck :) Keep us updated on how the return process goes.

I've had mine for about 3 weeks now and I love it, except...

I can't get the brightness control on the front to do anything. The button seems to be working physically, I get the on-screen display and when I press the +/- buttons it registers as I increase or decrease the setting. But I get no change in the brightness. I've tried it on a PowerBook from work and on my Mac mini that came in yesterday.

Any suggestions?

I did go into the color settings and manually set each color (RGB) from their defaults to a lower value, which in turn reduced brightness but I'm not sure this is optimal. Thanks in advance.

Edit: BTW, I don't have any backlight problems, and only one slightly stuck subpixel.
 
Awesome, so it does sound like Dell is really trying to fix this problem. I was reading that this monitor has Picture in Picture. Can some one clerify that for me. Like would I be able to have the computer plugged into it, and say a consoles sytem, and have it work together on this monitor? Or am I way off?

I haven't tested this but there is a PIP option in the options and the sources are d-sub, dvi, s-video, and composite
 
I sold my 2005fpw for what I bought it for... My friend said he doesn't even notice the slight backlight issue..

Now my dilema... did they actually fix this issue?

I am trying to decide if I want to take a chance and order 2 x 2005FPW's or 1 x 2405FPW.

I would probaby prefer to get 2 monitors.. but I DEFINITELY don't want to get 2 monitors with backlight issues... it's really annoying.

Should I take the chance? What would you do?

With coupons they are about the same price.

I believe you can only use the s-vid or composite with PIP. I have two computers hooked up (one VGA, one DVI) and only the s-vid and composite choices are available. The PIP can either be a small window in the corner or you can have both side by side, which gets scaled down, black bars on top. I'm curious myself to see how it works, so I might give it a go with my PS2.
