Well, I thought that I would post my setup before I started with the mods that I plan to do...

nice clean setup.. i wanted to get that same keyboard, because of the backlight.. is it any good? does it feel awkward for gaming?
That an Eluminx? If so, I have one and it is great for everything. Once you use one for a while, you never want to go back to a standard keyboard. :)

thx.

Yeah, I love mine. Now that I'm so used to it, I can't type on a normal keyboard anymore. It's much faster and I think it's more comfortable. The backlight is also bitchin'.

Awesome thread! Took me a few weeks to get through all the posts, but was time well spent.

I posted my setup in the LCD thread here a few weeks ago, but here it is again (click on the thumbnails for larger pics):

Plus a photo of my office at work. Wish I could replace the 21" CRT with a 19" LCD like I have at home, but can't complain. :)

(P.S.: Yes, I am a neat freak. Can't stand clutter! :p )

Why does everyone make such a big deal about wire neatness? I have a mess of wires under my desk and I wouldn't have it any other way, but I'm sure if I provided pictures everyone would go "eww!". They don't impede on my foot space and they aren't tangled. They are, in fact "ready to go", meaning that when I need to take my computer to someone's house, I don't have to spend time untangling them, nor do I have to spend time undoing them from any sort of wire management system. Didn't mean to single you out there TSS Modder. ;)

@gordy_hand: that keyboard is more "exotic" than I would expect from Dell! What's its model #?

Not sure of the model, but i know that it's about 50/50 between love them and hate them where I work.

They are nice if you need desk space, and need a full size keyboard.
On the other hand, anyone who has to type more than just a few words at a time, absolutely despises them. No wrist rests.

As a matter of fact, yes (among other things :D)!

(BTW that is my china cabinet, in case you couldn't tell. :D)

What can I say, I'm a big kid at heart. :p

is that pictures of a modded pc in the middle? wtf ?

i mean who does that.

me :p

I had a spare frame and it was going above my desk so it kind of made sense to put a few pics of my modding projects from over the years in to give me inspiration. I've got art all over the house so why not have something computer related in my office.

Its a dell entry keyboard, its great I used to have an apple pro keyboard but this is far better and looks excellent imho. The action is far better than the apple's too. Not to mention that it matches the monitor.

I never saw the use for wrist rests on keyboards I'm on this computer all day and never have a problem.

We've started seeing these KB's in the last few months around my work (SBC) also... My bud likes them so much he ordered a couple from Dell. Problem is, they're not an item they normally sell direct. I think a rep gave him two KB's for $40 (don't quote me on that though.). If he ever got a model # I'll pass it on...

Forgot to say, very l337 ('cept for maybe the old school/beige floppy :D)!

J/K... although I did decide to go without one for my old, mostly Fry's parts, PC.  ;)
Heh, thanks! Yeah, I wouldn't even have one, but there just seems to have been a few occasions where I found myself really needing a floppy drive for one improtant reason or another....needless to say, I think I've needed the one in the picture about 1 time so far since I've had it!

They are an effin nightmare on the keyboard front. I've got four of these keyboards now as they were on offer at £8.23 at the time.

And also because finding them is nigh on impossible on the dell website as dell don't show pictures and the same keyboard is often on their site multiple times at completly different prices. Because of this I actually got sent a free one from dell hehe.

I just had a look on dell's usa site to see if I could get the part number and they dont even have a single version of it for sale :(

The uk site has multiple entries for the keyboard its all the same one when you get down to it

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sn...y&mnf=&prst=&prEnd=&InStock=&refurbished=&fe=

(Note the massive changes in the price for the same blooming item)

You could try giving the model numbers quoted their to dell and see what they say, but if they are anything like what they were when I rang I wouldnt hold your breath.

Hope that helps

i also have a 'tangle' of wires behind my desk, but nobody ever sees them. but, like yourself, my cables are also ready to go. the system would work a little better if the frickin sticky pads would hold onto the freakin desk :p

Cleanliness and organization on a desk and or workstation is a highly over hyped thing to worry about, if i need room on my desk i will make room, and if my tangled cables start to electricute me then i will untangle them.
Cause im really scared of being barefoot under my desk, cause i have so many open things on my power strips

Hehe don't worry about it. The electrical contacts in outlets are recessed several millimeters into the holes, and even then you'd have to touch both contacts to get a shock. So unless you're really trying hard to get shocked...

Don't mind the flash, had to use it with my crappy room lighting. Getting a new desk soon, finally gonna get rid of this pile of a desk. Thursday is clean-up day, so I might end up replacing these pictures with a nice dust-free desk and computer. Computer specifications in my signature...
