2001FP or 2005FPW for gaming?

I use my computer 85% for gaming, 10% for internet, 5% for other stuff, so gaming is my priority. I see the 2005FPW does not do 1600x1200, and the native resolution is probably uncommon for games. What would I scale it to? What flat panel would be best for me? Please advise :) Thanks
 
I've got the 2001 fp, not the 2005fpw.

it's native at 1600x1200, and looks great
I believe the 2005fpw is native at 1680x1050

Some games will support this natively, but not many.

My advice? go with the regualr 4:3 monitor (2001fp). The 2005fpw is pretty, and great for watching dvd's, but games aren't ready to support it yet.

How is the image quality on the 2001FP as opposed to the 2005? I know a lot of people game on 2001FPs, how has your experience been?

I like Widescreen setups for everything but gaming, but I think most of the games I play nowadays support widescreen. For those that don't, do I *have* to stretch the display, or can it run like 1280x1024 on only the pixels required?

Also, how is the QC on the 2005 versus the 2001FP?
 
Once you go widescreen you'll never go back.

I just got my 2005FPW today and it's *amazing*. I upgrated from a 19" CRT and the difference is staggering. Playing HL2 in widescreen is like playing a movie. Plus I can't detect any ghosting at all.



Edit: No, you don't have to stretch the screen if the game doesn't support widescreen. You can just have black bars on the sides.
 
Go for the 2005FPW. Most new games support widescreen, such as HL2, Doom 3, Far Cry, Enemy Territory and UT2004. And if you want to play some old games, you can have black bars on the sides.

You'll get an advantage in FPS games with a greater FOV. Widescreen is the future.
 
For gods sake get the 2005fpw, its a no brainer, I have one, and you couldnt get me to use the 2001fp if you paid me.
4:3 is old school

Doom3 does not natively support widescreen, however you can hack it by making a custom autoexec.cfg file (like me~).
 
As someone who's 2005FPW came today, and just tried out HL2 in widescreen... go widescreen :D
 
i'm a 2005fpw owner as well and i suggest pick up 2005fpw and you will not be disappointed.
