Ok,
Today i got in my new power supply for my athlon 64. woot. 2 problems though.
1) Which do u think would be faster for f@h, The athlon 64 3000 or a p4 2.66 (no HT)? im guessing athlon. I have to make a choice because of problem 2.
2) i Dont have enough agp 8x cards (only 2 of them) to get all 4 machines up and running. Does anybody know where i can get cheap agp 8x cards? i need 2 and then i can get all 4 comps up.

Why buy 8x cards specifically? Look around town for used hardware stores and find a small card (<32MB) and save up for a decent 8x card if thats what you really want. I bought a 16MB 3DFX Voodoo 3 for $15, maybe you'll have the same luck.

1) im pretty sure the 3000+ would be faster.

2) just use 4x cards for systems that will usually be folding.

You could also use old pci graphics cards. Windows will load up on the one of mine I'm using in a second rig.

uh.. dot have either.. most of my parts are weith in the last 2 -3 years...
so any place for a couple of cheap 8x(4x) or pci cards?

The 3000 is most certainly faster for folding. If you have a “CG” stepping 3000, some of those will OC to 2.4 and above with no problems.

If you have a computer repair shop in town they throw a lot of old cards away, or keep them to sell, sometimes for cheap.

Just some thoughts :D

Well statiscally, AMD is better. Not to mention cheaper.

I have a few old S3 and Rendition cards laying around just to put in folding systems when I get the money to purchase some. I don't need anything better. I just wish I coule get this PIII system up and running. Too bad I need a PIII for it. Hell, I don't even know if the motherboard even works yet. I need to get my ass in gear, too bad I've had a few too many adult beverages. I don't want a repeat of the mojo story.

Hey, there's not much that looks better than a top of the line system with an old ass graphics card and an old hard drive in it to save money for a folding system. Too bad I don't have the top of the line system to add the old stuff to. I have the old stuff.

Don't worry, that was already taken care of before I posted.

Speaking of that, I think she's got the next drink done. See ya in a couple of days. :p

I have a brand new 90 nm 3200+ in a K8N Neo2. For some reason I can't get my Sapphire 9500 to work in it.. I simply threw in an old Voodoo2 card till I can get a replacement. Just because you have a Motherboard that supports AGP graphics, that doesn't mean you can't use a cheap PCI card as a stand in.

Shit i have a v2 sli.. but they are lonly 3d... dont know how that would work under xp, i do have a tntagp but is only 2xagp so dont confirms to the new 4-8x standards... might try and find a nice cheap 9200 ati radeon or some type geforce 4 agp 8...

If you've got a Voodoo card but need XP drivers, look here;
http://voodoofiles.com/

They have some really kick ass drivers there, some 3rd party and some official.

hey thanks for tha site..
forgot all bout it..
swear my iq dropped 30 points when i join the army! (not but army peeps know what i mean).. well the reason i point old ass parts into my athlhon system is so that i can get it satarted folding till i can get my personal system ready to wipe and swith with the new one..
athlnon xp 2400 to a athlon 64 3000.. sopulnd like a good tradeoff forht e money.
