OK, so I can get my 3850 to use my DVI=>HDMI converter to go full 1080p on my Sharp Aquos 46", however doing the same thing with my other PC with 1950Pro (same drivers and Catalyst setup) won't work. The display says incompatible video signal received. I however CAN output to the display from the 1950Pro with a DVI=>VGA and then run that to the VGA on the display and do full 1080p, but it doesn't scale quite right...

The 1950Pro Catalyst detects the Sharp HDMI, the 1080p and 60hz setting is the same at the setting on the 3850, all settings I can find are exactly the same. I even tried a different HDMI port just in case with no luck...

Anyone have any idea how to get this to work?

Thanks much

most lcd's only word best when using the VGA plug. Even my Sony Bravia looks like shat through the dvi set to native res.

Through the VGA "PC" input it looks sharp, but the screen is off center about an inch to the right. My other 32" Toshiba LCD also looks bad through DVI to HDMI, and through the VGA port it only supports 1024x768 resolution, not full 1280x720.

sucks that these limitations exist.

Edit: I just realized that this doesnt answer your question... sorry

does the 1950 support hdcp? thats the only problem I could think of.

It should have HDCP but that isn't/shouldn't be the issue. HDCP only happens when one device requests the handshake and theres no reason why (even if it was set to aggressive) the TV would be requesting the handshake.

Anyways, this is actually something of a common problem with ATI cards lower then the HD2x00 series; for whatever reason HD2/3000 series cards don't have this issue while x1000 series cards do.

Is it possible for you to go DVI to DVI? (Not sure if you're TV only has HDMI or if it also has DVI thrown in.)

Then you're doing something wrong. I have no problems with my old Olevia connected to my HTPC via DVI to HDMI adapter and I've played around with several Bravias and never had any problem setting them up over DVI/HDMI.

Actually, with 1080p content it looks quite nice through the DVI=>HDMI link, but maybe I'm just not as picky a viewer as others are... I find even some low quality movies I have on my hard drive look fine perfectly fine (700mb divx).

As far as I can tell from ATi's website, the 1950Pro is HDCP compliant and ready.

I just can't figure out what is going on here....
