150gb VRaptors in RAID?

Hello all,

I have a few questions on a potential RAID Set up with some 150gb Vraptors. Theres a member on here with a FS thread selling 2 150gb Vraptor drives at a great price.

I currently have one of these drives in my system now. I'm considering purchasing one or possible both drives to set up some type/form of a raid array.

What would be my best bet for a set up like this?
Buy 1 of his drives and pair it with my current one and run RAID0
or buy both of them and run 3 drives in a different configuration?
of course this array will be for my os, programs and games, like my single drive is set up for

If you're really gung-ho about this, consider using one (if not both) of the VelociRaptors for a RAID 0 configuration with your current VR, and then use your current drive (or the third VR, if you were to buy both of them) as an internal storage or backup drive. (FYI, you can utilize all three VRs in a RAID 0 configuration, but remember that if one drive fails, the entire array is lost.)

You really can't beat two VelociRaptors for that price, so you may want to jump on that deal ASAP.
 
Yeah even I, as a vocal opponent of VRaptor purchases, think that you should jump on that ASAP.
 
so I can run 3 raptors in a raid0 array? What type of performance are we talking here? will it be comparable to a SSD?
 
Most of the performance increase felt by using SSDs comes from their high random read/write speeds. You can't approximate SSDs with RAIDed HDDs, especially because access times actually increase as you add disks to a RAID-0 array.

No amount of physical hard drives of any kind in raid 0 will ever be comparable to an SSD in random operations and small reads and writes although one could easily beat an SSD in large sequential operations with a raid. The problem is that most operations on a PC are not large sequential operations. Nothing is the OS is large sequential and most games are not.
 
so 2 raptors is defiantly better than one, but will having a 3rd one even be worth it?
sorry for my redundant questions, but I've searched google and only come up with old post from 3 yrs ago, or get info about the newest 300gb and 600gb raptors. Also I've never done a raid array before, would like to do it just to learn about it
 
It will still be faster than two, but not as big of a performance increase as one to two
