1) What will you be doing with this PC?
- Some gaming
- Mainly used for video and photo editing
- Web browsing and emails of course too

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
- Budget is around $1500 just for the desktop and looking to get a HP zr30w have another $xxxx set aside for that.

3) Where do you live?
- Washington

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget?
- Case
- MOBO
- CPU
- RAM @ least 6GB+
- PSU
- GPU
- H70
- SSD
- HDD
- DVD

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
- have nothing to reuse

6) Will you be overclocking?
- most likely not

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?

- buying a HP zr30w

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
- basically will start once I put together a list

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? etc.

not a huge factor, I don't need crossfire or SLI

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?

Will be buying Windows 7 64bit home

I only want to buy from one store, newegg.com is normally the only place I look so.

Thanks
Nick

This should be good. I am assuming that the monitor is outside of this budget.

i7 930 CPU $289

ASUS Sabertooth X58
MB
$151

Corsair XMS3 3x2GB RAM $120

OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SSD $233

Corsair 650W PSU $89

HDs: 1 TB $70, AND 2 TB (slow for storage strictly) $110.

VGA: Wait for 6xxx series and perhaps even the coming GF110, or get a GTX 460 1GB. $250.

Xigmatek Heatsink and Cooler $45

CASE: Too personal, aesthetics involved as well. Approximately: $200

TOTAL COST: $1557

Upgrades I would make: More DDR3 and maybe a faster video card because of that crazy native res of your monitor.

I would strongly recommend that you prioritize graphics apps and current workflow data location for the second partition of your SSD (the first being for the OS). SSDs are absolutely essential for video editing if you are doing HD stuff.

That looks like a strong build and all I should need to build to get the job done and make the client happy.

Thanks nakedhand

A few problems with nakedhand's setup:
1) The motherboard is open box. Meaning that it may be missing items, that there may be previous undiagnosed damage made by the previous owner, and the possibility of a lack of actual warranty. Since this build is for a client, I wouldn't take the chance with an open box mobo for them.
2) The Core i7 950 is only $5 more and is well worth the extra $5 over the i7 930.
3) That Xigmatek HSF is a bit outperformed by this slightly cheaper HSF:
$30 - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus HSF for LGA 1366 and LGA 1156

I'd go with this setup instead:
$377 - Intel Core i7 870 CPU + Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Intel P55 ATX Motherboard Combo
$140 - 2 x G.Skill Ripjaw Series F3-10666CL9S-4GBRL 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM
-----------
Total: $517 plus tax and shipping

About $40 to $80 cheaper than nakedhand's setup (using old and new mobo) but provides the same performance and an extra 2GB RAM. The only real tangible advantage a Core i7/X58 route is an extra two RAM slots. That's pretty much it.

You can save $10 by getting the PSU and HDD that nakedhand listed from this combo link:
$150 - Corsair 650TX 650W PSU + Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive Combo

Touché! Didnt see that, nice. And I totally agree on open box for a client, not great.

Ya I noticed that and I just found the same board, none open box, but I am still researching tell the client says for sure to go ahead and order aka he gives me the $1500 :p

Thanks again guys
