If you can hold it off, new graphics cards are coming soon (September).

Hum. Well, you could buy a cheaper graphics card and play on lower settings until then. Maybe spend 50-60$ on a graphics card and then get a real one at the end of September maybe.
Second choice: Go with a 4850/4870/4890 and sell it when the new cards come out.

EDIT: Also, don't know if that cooling is worth the price. Can't say it isn't as I don't really know anything about it but look into it.
EDIT2: Also, intel is releasing newer CPUs soon that will cost less and perform similarly to the current i7 920.
EDIT3: Personally, If I were only gaming on the machine, I'd go with an AMD system with a phenom II 945, OC it to around 3.8-4ghz (I think they hit there) then use the money on other stuff... i7 920 is not worth 2x the price for gaming(200$ motherboards :/), you arn't going to be getting any insane FPS improvements.

I agree, wait a bit if you can. If not, oh wellz.

Which antec case do you have?

Having a Microcenter close by makes the i7 920 a much better package than it normally is online.

Saving $50-80 on the CPU makes the motherboards not seem so harsh on the wallet. Check the FS/FT forum here too IMO. I've got deals and sold off items @ cut throat prices. I know there's money to be saved in there, which will help stretch your budget further, and maybe allow you to jump into the next tier of choices (ie better video, more memory, you get the idea)

You could build such a nice computer for 1500. Mine runs everything and it was under 600.

^ that.

I just spent 1000 on mine including shipping (where I paid it)

i7 - 920 (Microcenter deals)
DFI X58 board (from the forums)
6GB OCZ Platinum (newegg)
2 x 750GB WD Caviar Blacks (newegg)
True Spirit cooler (frozencpu)
ABS Black Pearl (Newegg)
750W Thermaltake XT (steal from the forums)
*video card @ $100 is included in that $1k, but I haven't
bought it yet as I'm waiting for the 58xx ATI's to see what to do

In some cases, you have to compromise. In others you just
have to have patience.
