135 degree bend possible?

Hi Guys,

I'm putting my loop together and to make a run real short from the outlet on rad to res, I need a 135 degree bend. The rad and res are pointing in opposite directions basically. If I put 3 45 degree bitspower single rotaries in series, it creates a 135 bend that makes the connecting tube pretty much a straight run. Any issue to putting 3 of them in series? It is a loop that only has the cpu on it going through a 120.3 rad. Pump is a laing 3.25 18w through an apogee XT block. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
I don't see why not, but I've never done a water cooling setup either. As long as it doesn't leak, and it doesn't cause an obstruction on the flow, I don't see any problems with it
 
I dont see any big issue either, it would have been nice to avoid it if possible but stuff happens.
 
rotaries/barbs don't affect the performance of the performance of the loop as long as it fits.
 
It will add minimal resistance. You have way more pump than you need for that loop so no problem whatsoever.
 
I spent at least 3 days working out the tubing run on the system I built in December. Dozens of dry fits ... amazing how that soft 1/2" tubing grabs onto fittings!! A real PITA to get off!:mad: I used Swiftech barbed fittings.

I thought long about adding any number of angle fittings to reduce/eliminate large bends, but decided against them all ... $$ & every fitting does impede the flow some. Even if the fitting is a larger ID, turbulence occurs at the transition and that equals a bit more flow resistance. No, I have not seen any measurements posted on the web, but that Chem fluids class, so long ago, was worth something.

BUT, practically ... you'll never know the difference except in your wallet. Clear?:confused:LOL
 
Words of warning, those fittings need to be TIGHT or they will gradually loosen to a relaxed position and begin to leak. Depending on your tubing you may be able to get a 90 degree turn without using a fitting by increasing the radius of the turn (longer tubing). As far as going 135, you'll need a fitting most likely.
 
I tend to highly suggest using ptfe thread seal tape on all threaded fittings to avoid leakage. There's a reason for plumbers using it all of the time. At my store, we often throw this in for free on larger WC orders, just to try to encourage people to use it so they don't get leaks around their fittings.
 
I used ptfe seal tape on my fittings. I sliced in half with a razor blade so the width would not extend past the threads with one slightly over lapped loop. Not so much for aesthetics, or any thoughts of impeding flow, but just to keep it where it is supposed to be. With a very careful wrench tweak, there are no leaks.

OK. So this is probably a real n00b question. What if you use compression fittings? Do you stll need to mess with ptfe tape?:confused:
 
Yes, I am using compressions. Bitspower matte black for 1/2" ID 3/4" OD. Seems like it will be ok long as they are all on tight. I'd imagine once the loop is bled, pressue will equal out and it shouldn't affect flow too much especially given the pump and that i'm only cooling an i7 at 4Ghz in the loop.
