1155 vs 2011

Scour Newegg for some combo discounts on things like MoBo+CPU, RAM+PSU, etc.

Check out the Samsung 830, Crucial M4, and Plextor M3 series of SSD's... can't go wrong with them.

Memory is cheap so, if you feel you will be able to benefit from a full 64GB, then go for it.

Does 2011 have any good microATX boards out?, 1155 has a few but hard to choose which would be best for some good OC's

ya, i love that board, so sexyyyyy!!!!!

how is the ASRock extreme 4 ? is about $50 cheaper..

but i dont really want a 2500k again, so considering an Ivy bridge but the K are expensive.. AHHHH decisions!

2011 is for gross amounts of large work.
2011 is not 1155

1155 is not 2011

Hope my wisdom helps.
Some really deep wisdom here. Let me help you:
2011 is not C216

2011 is not AMD

2011 is not a banana

2011 is not an apple
etc....

1155 is not a banana

1155 is not an apple

1155 is not a carrot
etc...

Hope our added wisdom helps.

So, to offer some closure to this thread, I ended up ordering an i7 3770k, 32GB of Corsair DDR3 and an Asus P8Z77-V and am now just waiting for them to arrive. They'll get stuffed in an Antec Elevenhundred case with matching 850w PS (Thank you Antec and HardOCP!) along with some antique guts from my current relic to make a complete system.

Now I just need to settle on a heatsink setup... and I thought choosing a motherboard was a PITA?!

Your wisdom is about as useful as a fortune cookie during an zombie apocalypse.

That's the current plan. Hoping an Antec Kuhler H2o 920 will be up to the task of keeping it cool.

If Fudzilla is to be believed, Haswell processors using socket 2011 will not be backwards compatible with SB E/IVB E boards and those processors will not be compatible on Haswell socket 2011 boards.

Even with the same pin count, it's rumored they may not be backwards compatible at all.

So, it's technically a dead socket until after IVB E is released.

Yeah that's the real issue. Pin count wise, socket-2011 is going to be around for a bit, but if the Haswell-E 2011-socket is no longer electrically compatible with the SB/E or IB/E CPUs --AND MORE IMPORTANTLY-- for the person buying socket 2011 NOW, if 2011 Haswell-E CPUs don't work in current 2011 boards, then yeah, 2011 is EOL a lot sooner.

Haswell-E is pretty much guaranteed not to work in current 2011 boards. It will be DDR4 only, it won't have a DDR3 controller. That and the integrated VRMs guarantee that there is no backwards compatibility.

Only if you're running an AMD card, apparently  . Not that it makes a whole lot of difference right now.
Note that 2011 has a LOT more PCIe lanes than 1155.

Which means in multi-gpu setups 2011 with PCie 2.0 has as much bandwidth as 1155 with PCIe 3.0 and still has more PCIe left over for things other than graphics.

So, a bit more followup -

Antec Kuhler 920 is sweet, simple and straight forward to install, so far on stock clocks it's staying quiet and everything is nice and cool.

I found my Antec 1100 case had the same caved in foot issue that HardOCP noted in their review. Inspecting the packing materials I can't find any signs that it happened after the case was put into the box.

Other than that, loving the new setup and I haven't even tried pushing it yet.
