lets just hope a sr3 type board comes out now. 20core 40thread beast

These are LGA 1567 processors unless I'm mistaken. There will never be a consumer type board for this series. You will need to get a server board with the right socket(s) for this processor and it won't be cheap, memory performance somewhat slow and OCing an impossibility.
There were hex-core Core 2 processors for high end server platforms but they were also never made available for consumer boards/systems. Stick with the current SR-2 or anything equivalent for LGA 2011 if ever developed.
damn didnt look into it that much you just killed my dreams.
but yeah i will be sticking with whatever replaces the sr-2
Didn't intend to do that, only wanted to clear any impressions that this product line will be feasible as a folding platform. The processors alone will be in the thousands, typically $2K+ upon release for each. It makes much more sense to opt for processors with less cores and pair them up on a board that can OC such as the SR-2. With a ~4GHz OC and much better memory sub-system performance, you will make up for the deficit in core number totals. The money you save can also be used against a second system. The advantages quickly add up going the quasi-consumer route.damn didnt look into it that much you just killed my dreams.

i agree with you. i just want a 20 core / 40thread machien
then get a G34box with dual interlagos 16cores (bulldozer) when it comes out or is 32cores and 32 threads not enough![]()
Probably not.I think the real question is, WILL there be a replacement for the SR-2.

Yeah, the dual socket 6500 series has interested me since it was announced, and if there was an undocumented method of OCing it like there was with LGA 771, I'd look into it myself.but other than that it's awesome

Who said anything about folding?but i though you were giving up folding??![]()
will see how bulldozer compares to intel when it releases.
now you're just showing off. have you seen a BD yet?pfft why wait...gimmie a few weeks...

I guess that is a yes![]()
Probably not.
Likely not from EVGA, at least.
Is it anything close to the box I'm working on at this moment? 32 core/64 thread
I'd be happy with that![]()
