** Updated post below - I can wait 1-3 weeks for best options/value for CPU, MOBO, RAM @ $550/tax&shipping **

## Original post ##
Hi all, it's been a little bit, but I'm finally ready to retire my Q6600 (in sig) and am thinking z87 something and an i5-4670K at Microcenter which today is $189.99 and might be too good to pass up. I've done light OC on my Q6600 for some time, but only 3 years into it's duty cycle :) I'm tired of less than high graphics, and I bought but can't play BF4 :(

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Work - Sys Admin all remote work. Want 27" display after getting 3 x 27" 1080p Dells at work and loving size (but not resolution). BUT.. it would be great if a new monitor could double as a PS3 display in my office.. I can sacrifice this though as I realize 1440p is what I want and PS3 will suck on it/not work.

Games- BF3-BF4, Titanfall, SimCity5 (haha),Skyrim, DeadSpace, older STEAM games, etc.

Photoshop & Lightroom 5 (amateur photographer) who cares about color (thinking IPS @ 60HZ is > Tn @120). I plan on getting a calibrator shortly (not included in budget), I do very very light video edits with 720p & 1080p in Adobe suite. A web surfer but I don't watch movies on it.

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1000 total, tax'd shipped. Not including gas to MC :)

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
US, Somerville, MA.
Microcenter is 3.4 miles away and I hope to go today for everything but display!
I believe they will price match a XFXR9280xTDFD to Amazon/Egg price ($280 online vs $329 store)

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU, RAM, MOBO, Video Card, Monitor, Intel 1Gig NIC (I require 2 LAN support total)

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

Case: Antec P182SE
Power: Corsair 750TX
OS SSD: OCZ Vertex3 160GB
HD1: WD Green WD15EADS 1.5 TB
HD2: WD Green WD15EADS 1.5 TB
HD3: WD Green WD15EADS 1.5 TB
HD4: OLD Seagate Barracuda 1TB ST31000528AS
DVD-RW: Samsung SH-S3203N
Keyboard: Logitech G110
Mouse: Logitech G9x
*Monitor: Have Samsung 22" 2220wm which I love for 1680x1050

Sound: X-Fi HD US (up for debate)- but I'm a stereo man
Speakers: M-Audio AV 40 Stereo
Headphones: Audio Technica ATH-A900

6) Will you be overclocking?
Not likely now, in future perhaps.

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
22" 1680x1050 (for now) looking to upgrade to 1440p 27" hence the new build!

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Would love to do core components this weekend.

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
SATA6GB/s, USB 3.0, SLI would be good for "future proof" I suppose. Perfer Intel NIC

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
I have legit 64bit Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Pro keys (will use Pro I expect).

I should note I'm not beyond picking up a Intel Pentium G3240 3.10GHz LGA 1150 for $55 at Microcenter today while I wait to hear about Devil's Canyon if I'll be able to game for the next month or two at still better than Q6600 performance. IE can I get on BF4 at better than low detail?

Since you need something now, why deprive yourself?

$320 - Intel Core i5-4670K and MSI Z97-Gaming 5 Micro Center bundle
$135 - Crucial Ballistix Sport 2x8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
$90 - Corsair H80i (optional, if you're ready to overclock now)

You save $30 on any motherboard you buy alongside the i5-4670K, which is plenty fast for most people even at stock speeds.

When were you going to buy the new 1440p monitor?

Can oy live without Intel Ethernet ports?

While at Microcenter I held much internal deliberation and decided to hold off until at least June's flyer/sales and the hopeful announcement from Intel on new K series processors in the next week or two. I purchased the single pressing item, an XFX R9-280X price matched to Newegg ($297 w/tax) and am able to game with the current display at an entirely new level of fidelity & detail.

Now, I'm also strongly considering a 24" Asus PA248Q ($329.99) an IPS @ 1920 x 1200, after spending some time looking at and playing with it today instead of 27" at $599.99. Neither would let me use the PS3 so that's just out as a deciding factor. Also, I just don't think I can get all I want at the pricepoint if I go quality 1440p (meaning I'll end up with monitor only and no cpu/mobo).

As I purchase the soul of a computer only every 6-7 years it seems, waiting one or two or three weeks will yield a better chance of making an informed decision and keep me happy in the mid and long term.

Anyway, I'm now totally open to suggestions for Monitor, CPU, RAM, Mobo for $750 w/tax or shipping if purchased in the next 1-3 weeks.

One option looks like
24" Asus PA248Q @ $329.99
i5 4670K @ $189.99
Asus z87-A @ $114.99
Crucial Ballistix Tactical LP DDR3-1600 8GB @ 74.99
---
$754.33 total after tax at Microcenter

assumes I am using the following:

GPU: XFX R9 280X
Case: Antec P182SE
Power: Corsair 750TX
OS SSD: OCZ Vertex3 160GB
HD1: WD Green WD15EADS 1.5 TB
HD2: WD Green WD15EADS 1.5 TB
HD3: WD Green WD15EADS 1.5 TB
HD4: OLD Seagate Barracuda 1TB ST31000528AS
DVD-RW: Samsung SH-S3203N
Keyboard: Logitech G110
Mouse: Logitech G9x

Sale on the Asus PB278Q $466.00 pricematched at Microcenter to Amazon & BHPhoto!

Patience kind of paid off, so far Q6600 isn't making me cry with this massive resolution yet either!
