I'm working to get additional boxen.
I've got a Farm question for those of you that have farms. I'm looking to set up additional headless boxen. I'll probably use a monitor when doing the initial set up just to make things easier, but once it is set up is where my question applies.
- Can I remove the video card? Will the system boot up without one?
- Can I use Remote Desktop to do all future maintenance on this headless boxen? Restart of boxen / Login to boxen after restart ?

Not having to use the video card once I've got the box up and running saves money over the long run. Much like only needing the CD Drive for initial setup.
I'll be using licenses from an MS Action Pack (10 licenses for Vista Business x32/x64) so Bill only $299. I'm getting the MS Action Pack actually to get MS Server 2003 R3 x64 (retail $699). So for $299, I get the MS Server 2003 R3 x64 and all of the Vista Licenses (plus a bunch of other stuff). This will keep my costs WAY DOWN. Plus I have all of the windows functionality that I need.
- Shared Folders (for FAHmon)
- Remote Desktop (for restarts/maintenance)

Thanks for the Linux info. I'm a total Linux noob and would love to use Linux, but right now don't have time to learn how to use it. I'm hoping I can find the time this summer to learn it and I'll use one of my future boxen to do so. I'm especially thankful for the TightVNC info. I'll definitely include that in my research later.
Does anyone know if there is a complete noob's step by step guide for installing Linux?
Which flavor of linux is recommended?
I know VMWare has a VMWare Server for Linux. Anyone using it to use multiple instances of the SMP Client? Is there a PPD advantage in Linux when using multiple VMWare instances (like in WinDoze)?
