I thought all Americans reverse the order in which they write the month and day, e.g. MMDDYY instead of YYMMDD?

Strange though, they don't write e.g. half past five numerically as 30:05 :confused:

Yep, MMDDYY here. Don't see why you think of it as strange though. "October fifth, 09", "September eleventh, 01", "January eleventh, 2010", etc.

(Also, I like how MMDDYY features increasing numbers. (01-12)/(01-31)/(00-99))

Technically, you'd have to put a leading "0" in those dates, so 09/09/99 do not all have the same numbers.

That said, 08/08/08 was pretty neat when the Olympics officially began. :cool:

I prefer the European way of DDMMYY since it's in alphabetical order and in unit of time order.

In that case, let's make sure to put the lead 20 in front of the year too. That way we're not confused about whether we're talking about 2008 or, for example, 1908. Then it all just breaks down. Because then you need to put in whether we talking about AD/CE or BC(E).

Um actually wouldn't the first instance of 11/11/11 be November 11th, of the year 11? Thought that was pretty obvious. We had 1900 years or 9 instances of 11/11/11 prior to 1911 you know. well technically more before, a lot more, but we count down in reverse for those years. so technically there is a 11/11/11 BC and a 11/11/11 AD, but did they have a 12 month calendar at that time?

Anyway counting up from 11/11/11 we have..

1/1/1 (doesn't actually count since we are talking about 11/11/11)
11/11/111 (wow thats a cool one too, does the 1 get dropped when this was written?)

I think it's OK to verbally ask the question. It's just a little annoying to not quote or italicize the written target as in "today's date" or today's date. If this were done I believe the desired would have been found sooner.

Here's another one which works quite well verbally:

you write down the letters, in order

n e w d o o r​

and ask the victim to make one word from them. Most people will struggle for some time and finally give up.

Anybody care to guess the desired target solution, whose derivation is akin to this thread's?

It doesn't makes sense to anyone else, since most places use DDMMYY which is an incerment in order of time magnitude. Going YYMMDD is the same thing inverted.
Just like the unpractical, imprecise Standard System.

Note that I said the first time *since* ... not the first time (period). So, we'd have to go in reverse chronological order, starting from 2011, so the next one would be 1911. :cool:
