The WD1000FYPS is the proper drive for use with RAID controllers. I am aware of the issue, but in my case when used alone the drive miserably failed SMART tests.
It is as simple as this, defective drive.
But thank you.
I recently purchased (2) 1TB enterprise drives from WD, put them in RAID 0 for a media server and the array kept "going away".
So last night I called WD and got off-shore tech support which was less than useless and they did not even seem to want to help.
This morning I called WD...

It may have been ten years ago but I replaced MB and CPU, I changed from AMD to Intel, keeping all the hard drives. I have been using NT4 for OS.
Anyway I just booted and NT "found the new hardware" and just asked me to reboot only once then ran like a champ.
You may have to call Bill...
I will not tell others how to set up their PC but I will tell you how I set up my physical drives.
Disk 0 - WD Raptor 150 GB (2) partitions - 110 Gb for Vista 64 & apps - 40 GB for install (store drivers and mini apps)
Disk 1 & 2 - 750 GB each - media server
Disk 3 - 750 GB - backup...
Trying to be helpful, not a smart asp.
I have a QX9650 running 3.8 right now. I like it.
I just set the FSB up to 1700 and the CPU goes to 3.8.
What I like the best is that the bios automatically enabled super step when I OC'ed and normally the CPU trips along nice and cool at a 2.4...
I have been shopping for 1 TB drives for a RAID media server and the thought occurred to me: 1TB drives have been out now for a long while.
Why buy several 1 TB size now when something larger is over due?
So I searched the net looking for info on larger drives to be released this year and...
> damn that sounds like a hell of a system.......
My dad is getting up there in age. Dont know how many more years Ill have him. Last system I put together for him a few years ago was an all-nighter. It was an Intel 3.0 HT with a new cable modem, he was on dial up before that.
So as I...
I used the stock Intel cooler which is unique to the Extreem edition, and used the stock Intel paste, not AS.
Compressing video is CPU intensive. I don't remember the temps but after a short time the CPU got too warm and the clock speed went south. For my dad it does not matter.
My point...
An Intel question if I may?
I have a 3.8 Intel OCd to 4.0. It works well in a multitasking XP OS with hyperthread. When I am working and some other process kicks in the CPU allocates it self well and applications dont seem to suffer to great a performance hit.
I just built a new PC for...
Koolance makes less noise than the Zalman and at least takes the heat out of the case. Still it is like a hot plate left on in my office.
Reading elsewhere, I might be able to plug a quad core in to my existing MB?
Other rumors - Intel will go water cooling?
I do a fair bit of video compression work. I have a water cooled 3.8 Mhz over clocked to 4.0 Mhz.
It runs hot as hell when the CPU is 100% for a few hours at a time. The system is now about 18 months old.
I dont need a system 5% faster than what I have, I want a system about 10 times...
The 2005 version of ghost can restore just a logical disk, but the 2004 version always updated a whole physical had disk. The new version is much slower. As best I know yes a Ghost restore will by-pass the activation but I LIKE calling India and waiting for a human being and make them wait...
Yesterday I unplugged a USB printer and plugged in my Sony Camera, so then XP wanted me to call India again for permission to use my operating system.
This isnt the first time, recently I replaced a bad floppy drive and removed half the memory ( 2GB to 1 GB) to see if that speeds up memory...
I scheduled both a chkdsk (of F:) & then ran BootVis, on boot it ran chkdsk then bootvis (which failed) and now every time I boot it runs chkdsk on F:
How do I clean this up?
PC Power and Cooling have their own fan club.

For my money they have the best quality, fewest problems, tightest specs and very nice features, (like a mess of IDE & SATA connectors) and wire...
I can't cite details off had but you may need a 24 pin MB connector, and sufficent amps capacity for the CPU, both an aux 4 pin (MB) & 6 pin (video) connectors.
My PC P&C 510 also has an abundance of IDE & SATA power connectors which are handy.
I recently had a case related problem. When I built a new PC this Christmas almost could be reused so I just built a whole new PC with a Lian-Li case.
With a P4 3.8 Ghz the OE CPU fan was marginal, so I went to a Zalman cooler and had no problems. Wanting more cooling I went to a koolance...
20 years ago when I had a FFL Lisc and worked double shifts I could have UPS leave a couple shotguns, a rifle or two, several handguns with 20,000 rnds of ammo on my porch on a given day, and nothing ever turned up missing when I got home at 9:30 pm.
In my neighborhood both FedEx & UPS will...
It's a funny thing, a few years ago I changed from AMD to Intel, kept the same case and disk drives.
When I booted XP it just "found new hardware" and never missed a lick.
This week I changed cases and removed 1GB RAM and used a new floppy drive, and I had to call Microsoft for...
Microsoft eats the lint out of my shorts. I moved the system from one case to another. Used a new 1.44 floppy and removed half of the 2 MB memory since it just slowed down the memory from 4-4-4-4-12 to 5-5-5-5-15.
Well XP concluded it's a whole new system and I'm a software pirate. I had to...
I may have resolved this heat issue, I was playing HL2 for a few hours with the side of the case off and CPU temp peaked at 36C, but MB temp was much warmer ~ 47c.
I put the side of the case back on with the PC running and the PC just locked up. So I removed the side of the case and felt the...
what temps?
with stock intel cooler - 70C +
so I tried
with zalman cooler - 55C max
so I tried
with Koolance Exos - <40C max
When I rip a DVD to disk & compress I can bury the CPU Utilization for 1/2 hour at a stretch. If I rip 8-12 DVDs on a busy day the CPU will be maxed...
I kept the voltage the same as stock, never changed it.
I sent my old CPU to intel on Monday, they got it Tuesday, my next CPU in on truck for delevery today (wed). So 3 day turn around is not too bad.
In contrast ASUS charged me $400 to cross ship, then when the replacement was DOA I...
I was OK with a 5% OC using a Zalman CPU cooler, I wanted more so I put on a Koolance Exos and tried 10% OC, which lasted 2 weeks.
I don't undersand, the temp probe never showed "hot" ? It stayed under 40C always.
I got it all working, on the 3rd MB from ASUS. I lost use on my main PC for most of Feb.
I used a postum note folded in 8ths under the blue screw to take the slack out, used the upper holes in the brackets.
Peak temps droped from 68C to 33C, a delta T of 35C or 95F, not too shabby.
2nd...
Sorry to cause a problem, I never play on line multiplayer games. It just does not interest me.
Is it OK with you guys if I use cheats alone on my own PC with software I own?
Consider Sig re-edited
Should be possable to put my best cheats in to text file and run them as a executable script. I tried everything but I can't get it to work.
Has anyone?
Can anyone get me started?
In the old days one would put 2 hard disks on one channel (master & slave), then if they had a CD-Rom or two put them on their own channel (master & slave).
I have a boot Raptor, a 300 GB general use hard disk and 2 SATA DVD-RW drives. After booting I realized they came up 1 HD & 1 DVD on...
It has been a while so I wanted to update my situation. With my first Asus MB I may have been a little heavy handed trying to follow Koolance directions and use the lower holes in the brackets.
Asus was kind enough to send me a relpacement MB, fit between the water block and CPU was still...
More now than ever I have something else always running in the background, a firewall, a spyware scan, a ghost back up, a DVD rip or burn.
With HT even if one task sucks up one HT, the other is still free for me and taking it easy.
When Intel releases multi core and more apps multi thread...
Yes I got the 775 adapter kit, 300CPU and the spacer Kit, (spacer is not needed) + a silver EXOS I. CPU waterblock is the only waterblock in the circuit.
I am waiting for some Artic Silver Creamic from newegg, (due Friday). If that does not solve the problem it all goes back, it seems...

I hope it is just an issue of bad thermal paste supplied by Koolance. I have done a half dozen "take out & put back in" with the CPU-300 water block and I hope that some real...
I called Koolance & ASUS support on Monday now that they are both open. It did not help much, I did 2 more teardowns & inspections.
Koolance admitted that they packaged some of that counterfeit Artic Silver that was going around with some of their exos products. They recomended I remove the...
Today I will remove the thumbscrew and recenter above the center hole per Koolance instructions.
Before BIOS is the POST and that is where it fails. I had an X wife with the same problem, would not pass POST.
