ATX is a spec for the board size and general locations for the CPU, PCI Slots, and case size. Everything else manufacturers can put anywhere they think would be aerodynamically efficient.
Not all games suck. Stuff like Sly Cooper, Beyond Good and Evil, Command & Conquer, Call of Duty, and many others do a great job in every aspect. No game can be perfect, especially now when the deadlines are 9-18 months and costs are up in the millions. On Earth, money is more important than fun.
I really like the way the story was told. Its better than in some games where some soldier dude comes up to you and say. "OK, so and so is screwed in wherever and we must do such and such in order to get into wherever and save the day." To me, thats just stupid. Its like giving you cliff notes...
Monitors can display 1.3 million pixels, game makers make use of this and dump the 4:3 ratio because nothing is really messed up. The code was designed for 12x10.
Edit: I measured my 17in CRT and got a 5:4 perpective. Go figure.

Ug GS in my area is BS. My laptop inverted busted, and they told me to pay $1600 to replace the screen. I said no thanks and had it done by an Authorized Repair center for my laptop. Costed $156. Hehe.
