So I was wondering if anyone might have a clue, because I can't for the life of me figure out what else to do: I have this old pc setup (Athlon, Asus board with Nvidia 6150...) as a TV with an equally old PVR-150. It's been working fine for years, I barely watch TV so don't need more than basic...
Ah yes, thank you, winsock is one term that was eluding me. It's been a while since I had to deal with this stuff.
And I probably should have mentioned that Vista is the OS in question. Oops.
Apologies for the hopefully unnecessary thread but... I'm trying to fix someone's computer and have very little access to the machine (a sick person in the house, long distance, can't take it with me) - so I would like to go back as prepared as I can. If anyone has any experience with this...
*edit: never mind, way to mis-read, or not read, the last part of the op... :D
SpeedFan, as much as I don't like it, will do that. As a matter of fact, GPU and core temps are the only things it will get from this mobo (no fan speeds, hdds, etc).
What on earth do you guys do with these boards? "Runs happy at 60"??? Mine has never been above 46 with residual air flow, and I haven't even changed the thermal compound. Weird...
So I'm one of the many here that jumped on this board couple years ago when it came out. Used it in a gaming box with a dedicated sound card. I have now "promoted" it to work-only duties, and in the process removed the sound card and switched to the onboard audio.
.... aaaand it turns out...
Thanks. I was worried as I was reading through this thread that I might be the only one who would say that... ;) I wanted to laugh at him at first, but then it just kept coming and coming... now he/she/it is just sad.
Now, I generally ignore trolls and will get right back to it, but I do want...
So I RMA'd a brand new laptop HDD last week, the first time for me with WD... after all was said and done, guy on the phone tells me they will send me a "re-certified" drive. Needless to say, I was royally peeved for obvious reasons - but long story short, I got the replacement drive today...
Could anyone recommend a good digital voice recorder, preferably from first-hand experience? I'd like to use it in a small classroom environment to record lectures (for the most part).
** I had a chance to use one of the Sony's midrange models and wasn't quite impressed. Used it to record an...
Probably not the smallest choices, but all things considered (including internal layout) the only 2 mATX cases that I like are Silverstone TJ-08 and Apevia X-QPack2 (and possibly Silverstone SG-02, if you can find it). Then of course it all depends on what and how much H/W you're planning to...
I seem to remember a thread with listings/recommendations for RAID cards - have I gone insane and just can't see it or has it been a victim of the forum troubles ???
I'm sure there are, that's why I asked... (yes I know there's google, and I tried a quick search but it seems like way too much reading through way too much crap to find any useful info, and I don't even have enough time to eat these days, so I was hoping for more of a "go there and use this and...
long story short: college course, lots of video watching, large online component - includes a whole bunch of PDF files as a required reading...
weird part - about half of those PDFs cannot be printed !? I don't see what the big deal is and would like to print them; I prefer to do my...
you might have noticed it's always the black version that has the lower standard compliance. there's nothing different inside - it's the same monitor, d'uh! - the thing is that there are different chemicals used to make the black plastic...
I'm not really going to comment on the above, but since it makes me look bad for absolutely no reason I'd just like to point out to those reading this thread that there was NO "cussing" in the "thread titles per the rules here"
just to clear any misconception that might arise.
thank you.
so I've had my TB for about a month now; I'm running it in a completely paranoid/serious work mode  , that is, only legal soft and utils, couple older games and absolutely no unnecessary crap installed, security at max and all... and it's been beautifull so far... but... I just decided to...
as for the touchpad scrolling, I do have the Synaptics drivers (doesn't everyone ?!?); and seriously- why woudln't it work in FFox when it does in Windoze and every other app, in every possible situation ???
yay, thanks for that... couple years of using FF and I never knew :) how embarrassing
So I had to create that value, once I did it took effect immediately. It somewhat takes care of things, but doesn't quite work the same as it used to in IE, so half the time it's useless... :(
just really quickly, maybe it's just me but 2 things don't work:
1. inline autocomplete for URLs (assuming it's supposed to... ) - on any computer
2. touchpad scrolling on my notebook - this drives me nuts when I'm out and don't have the mouse
Any ideas ?
I'm not sure what's "mid-priced" to you, but if you want tough notebook you get a Panasonic Toughbook, no discussion. You could get a lower end TB-51 for under $2k US
mmmmmmm TB51..... to me, the only perfect notebook in the world, has everything just the way I want
what's wrong with you guys ? this is like the best thing ever: you get to use a computer AND won't get anyone pregnant. doesn't get any better
but seriously, when you use your laptop on your lap it's gonna sit up on your thighs as mentioned previously, so who the hell comes up with...
just wondering if anyone knows - are these all shipping with the new panels now or is it still a matter of getting lucky ?? (in Canada, if it makes any difference...)
I tried all sorts of places/people incl. IT program coordinator (!?!) and the book/comp store (that's where they thought I'm begging for free software or something :) )
had an orientation session at the college today, and reading about all you guys getting WinXPPro and schtuff for free or for $10,- or such at school... I went around asking, but let's just say I didn't get very far.
Typical reactions:
- blank stare
- "huh ?"
- "you speak english ?"
and...
