Yeah, just tried that. I got a different error code that I overlooked earlier, "Monitor or graphics card error" with no video card in. Odds a very good now it's the video card, I would guess.
I think some progress has been made, I heard a beep.
But first, I put in a new Q9550 and the only thing that changed was that it no longer shut off after a bit of idling. In fact after a period of time the "PHASE LED' row of LEDs would turn off. Nothing else was different.
So I took...
Just got back with another new PSU, now I've tried it with a new PSU and new mobo AT THE SAME TIME. Same results.
I have previously tried:
: 0 ram sticks in
: no video card in
: all HDDs unplugged (from mb and psu)
: using a different power cable, in a different surge protector, plugged...
I've pulled out the ram before, hoping for a memory error beep but didn't receive anything (means it screws up before that post check, I'm guessing). I have tried the system without the video card in, since the video card isn't required to achieve post.
Yes, my previous mobo DFI Blood-Iron had on-board beeps, and I'd get one every time I power on. According to the manual for the gigabyte, it too uses beeps.. of course I don't know if it's on-board audio or not.
I guess I'll pick up a psu again and see if it's a psu+mobo issue. After that I'm...
Well, update:
Bought new PSU, swapped, same results. Returned PSU convinced it was the mobo.
Bought new mobo, swapped, same* results.
Maybe it's the PSU and the mobo... and who knows what else.
*The new mobo (gigabyte EP45-UD3P) gives no beeps like before, although after 20 seconds or...
That's a good point. I guess I'll pick up a PSU and test it out. I think if it ends up going beyond the PSU, I may just go ahead and put something new together, it's been more than 18 months, anyway.
Thanks for your advice, I will take more consideration when getting surge protectors from now on. As for resetting the CMOS jumper, would taking the battery out for ~10m suffice, because I gave that a shot already. I don't think the video card is relevant (although it could be fried, but that...
I need some help from anyone who has any ideas as to what my PC's problem could be. The power went out for a few seconds during a thunderstorm and my PC didn't come back on normally afterwards.
I was running SETI@Home on my PC during the thunderstorm, using up 100% of my CPU (CPU=55C, cores...
I tried that, but unfortunately the web apps I create use my IP (i.e. to display an image on a web page it wants to pull the image from my server) and any instance of that fails. So while I can get to my server, the web apps I'm serving can't do much once I'm there.
I'm not happy with my setup. I will not be happy until I can find a new prime two, maybe three times an hour, fold like a million points a minute, and ray trace at 60fps.
I just got a NetGear WNR2000 router and am having trouble with what I think some people call 'router loopback'. Outside of the lan I can access my web server using my IP, but while inside the lan it redirects me to my router settings page when trying to navigate to my IP. This is bad because I...
The fans suddenly aren't turning on for my Accel 8800 VGA cooler. Anyone had this problem with an aftermarket cooler? Any simple way to test if it's the cooler, mobo, or psu (without subbing parts)?
http://blogs.barrons.com/techtraderdaily/2008/10/06/nvidia-pacific-crest-downgrades-to-exit-chipset-mkt/?mod=googlenews_barrons
Nvidia (NVDA) shares are down sharply today following a highly negative report on the company from Pacific Crests Michael McConnell.
For starters, he asserts...
Does CUDA work on Vista yet? I wanted to play with it a while back but it only supported XP, which is kind of strange since nVidia is such a pusher of DX10 tech.
I let it dry for a couple of days, but the mobo is likely pwnd. After getting the same results from turning it on, I drained everything and pulled out every block and component to see if I could find any damage. I found coolant crust on the video cards and inside the PCI-e slots. I don't...
The smell of heated coolant, no burning plastic smells. I'm going to try air blasting. It's going to kill me not to turn it on to test it, but I'll give your technique a shot and try this every day for the next couple of days. It seems like the easiest method as everything is hooked up to the...
Not much to show. I cleaned up the coolant (probably about half a cup's worth) and refitted the hose. There's no smoke and fire or anything. It turns on like a perfectly fine PC, except I get a long beep after a few seconds and "7F" on the mobo code LED (supposedly the "bad" error code)...
I'm not sure if putting more water into the reservoir, taking the problematic hose back off, and turning the PC back on so I can take pictures would be the best plan. It did look awesome, though, seeing all that coolant leaking on my 680i and modified 8800 ultras. Maybe I'll draw a picture. :p
I came home this afternoon to find my PC turned off. The reservoir looked a little strange, kind of lower than usual, but I saw nothing at a glance inside the case to convince me of a leak, so I turned the PC on. Received a long beep, nothing, opened up the case to see if there was an error...
I'd agree with that. The purpose of VM is to give a user access to a machine that does something other than what their host machine can do (at least I think that's what it is). Why not make that VM a 'gaming console'. I'd imagine it would be similar to Steam in distribution of games, with...
Consoles not being able to handle MMOs well didn't stop houses like sony/etc from making them for PC. Exclusivity is a golden ticket, giving the users something they can't get elsewhere will always be good. The PC gaming market still has a good 10 years of holding its 'i have the latest...
Yeah, I found it curious when I saw neither Crysis nor TF2 on the list.
Though you should also consider the fact that console games also have a worldwide presence as well as online distributions (whether it be through purchasing full games or the insanely successful downloadable content...
I have an eVGA 680i board and I hate it. The MCP is hot as hell, hot enough to cause problems with certain parts of the motherboard. The only time I've seen a real jump in anything with SLi on or off is with 3dmark (and I'm using 2x Ultras).
Yep, not even on the 2007 charts:
Notice the type of games that manage to find the most success on the PC are hard to pirate MMO games and casual games that cater to a less savvy audience.
Here's console's 2007 chart for good measure:
That's what the 3rd one was about. Maybe it wasn't cleaer enough, though.
The problem with that notion is that they should be able to have both. 2 million PC gamers plus 3 million console gamers adds up to better than either/or. The real problem comes when you start to account for...
1) Piracy narrows your market. This really is the big one. They just need to figure out a way to overcome piracy. The MMO sector has figured it out.
2) PCs, for the most part, come with a keyboard, and no game pad. If your game requires a game pad, you must either sell your game with one...
