Yeah, do all that stuff. My WD died today. I had to do data recovery to get files back. My Seagate is still running strong and has never acted wierd. Plus my Seagate is much more quite thanthat loud WD.
My old Clawhammer:
2.4Ghz @ 1.7 vcore lasted 2.5 years running Prime 95 24/7 for most that time. About October/November It started giving errors in P95, as well as crashes, long post times, and etc. So I reset everything to default. It's still running, but even the capacitors are bulging like a...
Metallica, your right. I come from the music world. They still use Macs there, but PC creams Macs. Most Mac people are still in the glory years. You know 1984. The 1984 Mac was equal to Wondows 95 in terms of GUI. But the PC have long since caught up and surpassed the Mac. AMD owns 64 bit...
Thanks. In the music business Sibelius is the newer, faster, eaiser to use music notation software. Finale is the old clunky notation. Many universities and music publishers have switched to Sibelius. It seems like the same thing is happening in the graphics design industry. Cool, I think...
Any of you heard of this game: http://www.guildwars.com
I've been watching this game since Thanksgiving. A free MMORPG design by the guys who originally built Battlenet for Blizzard. I think it will beat World of Warcraft.
I've got a faily large radiator from a radiator shop. I run 4 80mm fans like so:
fan|fan
fan|fan
I unplugged the the fans for about and hour of so. Temps got up to 47C.
The same thing happened to me once. I called AMD and told them the truth. I droped the processor while taking out oof the machine. They still sent a new one out!! That was my clawhammer 3000+ 2.42Ghz @1.7v!!!
Check out Barefeats.com
They've shown that using x-plane that AMD 64 get 2x the frames rates that a G5 can get using the same processor speed. X-plane was developed on the Mac and the PC still blow it out of the water.
Have any of you used linux on A64? Have you notice any difference in speed. I just ordered SUSE Linux 9.2. I bought it because dowloading linux on dial up would take longer than for them to deliever it.
All these HSF combinations are not the best. If you want the best aircooling. Go to Home Depot and buy some duct material and run it from your airc onditioning vent to your machine. You'll get some cooling!
Get adequate cooling!!! I built a water cooling system for my machine. Also, there are plenty of HSF that will do the job quite well.
Take small steps. Don't over clock in the bios. Truying to boot at outlandish speeds ain't smart. Overclock with ClockGen. Sure overvolt in bios but not...
I just built my niece a computer. I ran P95 for 14 hours. Make sure you put in 9876 password and set priority to 10. Blend test is the best like the guy said above.
Yeah, overkill on the pump, dude. NB block is a wais of time nergy and money. Go with 1/2 in tubing for performance and overclocking. Go with Danger Den. They've been in the business a long time and there stuff works well. Double heater core? Go for it. Ghetto is cool. You can get some...
Celsius temps are basically standard in oc world. Are these temps idle or load. Are occlocked or not? What type cooling do you have? All these factor are need to determine if you have good temps. It's relative, kind of.
I'm running a Clawhammer @ 1.7v. 2.42Ghz stable. Idle 38C on water cooling. Vdimm 2.8v My timings are 2.5, 3, 3, 11. This timing allowed me to get an extra 10Mhz from 2.41 to 2.42Ghz. I think you got a crap chip. I'd RMA or sell it on ebay and get another one.
My point is that I'm only cooling my CPU. I got aheater core for a radiator shop in town. I built the entire thing for $160 including clamps and everything. Maze 4 CPU block was on sale. Radiator was $20 bucks. Tube at Lowes was $0.69 per foot. 3/4 inch OD crossbraided tubing doesn...
Don't us thermal paste. Use Arctic Silver 5. It doesn't stick I had the same problem with my original Clawhammer. I use the stock heatsink. It had paste. i treied to tak it off and it wouldn't move. I finaly got it off but the pin were bent. AMD sent me anoher one. I Used Arctic Silver...
Try this and call me in the morning.
1. only overclock in windows not in bios. Use Clockgen
2. 10x200Mhz in bois
3. Vcore to 1.7v
4. Memory timings 2.5, 3, 3, 11
5. your Vdimm looks good.
6. set memory to 166Mhz.
I tried fooling around with the multiplyer on my Clawhammer and it just...
I'm using DangerDen Maze 4 water block, heater core, res, set up. I running 1.7Vcore @38c idle pushing 49c load. Chaintech boards read high to me. The tubes don't "feel".anywhere near these temps. It say 38C but it feels closer to 30C. My old MSI board read 28C idle 34 load with same setup.
What was your voltage set to? You may not have a processor that can oc that much. With my co stepping anything over 2.4Ghz is a blessing.
What speed is stable with your processor? Is it new? RMA and get another one.
You can build a water colling system for about $100. It's a called a Bong Cooler.
http://eyecannon.com/bong.html
Traditional heater core water system like mine will cost $160+ just for CPU cooling. Bong cooling is very effective depending on where you live. If it's hot and dry Bong...
Maybe get memory timings down. Mine are 2.5, 3, 3, 11.
I've got my memory @ 166Mhz. CPU is at 2.42Ghz stable @1.7Vcore. Memory @202Mhz. HTT: 4x. Vdimm 2.8v. Water cooling.
I never messed with Chipset or AGP voltage. I'm too scared.
Here is a great areticl about overclocking A64...
With the number of cars that have been manufactured in the past 100 years there is no reason why you can't find something with the right size your looking for.
Your could build buy egtting some copper piping from Lowes and then solder fin on it some how but you will never achieve the cooling that a heater core or radiator will. If you wanna make your own radiator a bong cooler would be much cheaper, easier, and more effective.
My CPU is 512MB cache 2Ghz stock. This CPU was a replacement from AMD. I fried my first one. That was back when I didn't understand AGP lock, or rather lack there of. That was with my MSI NEO board. I just put in the Chaintech VNF3-250 for better ocing.
Here are 10 tip for overclocking A64
1. upping the voltage is a must for overclocking.
2. Leave HTT @ 4x.
3. Relax memory timings My timings are 2.5, 3, 3, 7
4. Set Vcore to to 1.6v (no more than 1.7v)
5. Set Vdimm to 2.8 (no more than 3.0v)
6. Set memory to 166mhz instead of 200mhz...
Is that with a newcastle core? I've already got water cooling and can only hit 2.42Ghz on my Clawhammer 3000+. I guess CG stepping is the way to go.
BTW: Chaintech VNF3-250. The AGP lock make al the difference. I could only get 2.15Ghz stable on my MSI K8T800. nf3 kicks butt.
Epox...
