In real world performance is there that much of a difference between DDR2 and DDR3?
I'm looking at a couple of AM2+/AM3 mainboards that will take DDR2. Would they be that much slower than an AM3 mainboard that takes DDR3?

5770 would be the way to go but they are a little over $100.
4850 1GB is right at $100 now. Could probably pick up a used 4870 for about $100 also.
On the Nvidia side a 9800GT 1GB is about $100 right now.

I use several XP programs in Win 7. No problems whatsoever, don't even use compatability mode.
I'm sure there are XP progs that have issues with 7 though.

Keep the 7900GS and enjoy it. It is much better than the other cards you have listed and will play your games much better. You'll be able to get a lot more money when you sell it in June.
