Maybe "within a year" isn't accurate. If newer games come out down the line, I would like to have the option to either SLI or just upgrade the card depending on how far out that is, and which is a more cost-effective measure.
That's the game plan. I just keep my gaming rigs for a long time, so I foresee either SLI'ing or replacing the card down the road, grant it that could be two years or so out.
Hi tiraides,
Thanks so much for the response. I'm thinking I'll go with the Z87-GD65 for the slight OC boost. I'm going to remove the backup drive and dvd drive as I have quite a few of both laying around. As far as the case goes, I think I'm going to go with the Fractal Design Define R4 or...
I'm fiending for some Ghost & BF4. I've got both installed on my old rig, but sadly they are unplayable. I think I'm ready to do a build now, even if the BF4 multiplayer isn't 100% benched.
Not as extensive of a review as Tom's Hardware, and other sites' single player, but finally came across a post-release multiplayer review HERE
After reading that, I'm happy with my GPU purchase.
So I passed on the mobo, but it looks like the majority of BF4 performance reviews haven't shown much beyond the norm of the GPU performing most of the work beyond having a quad core/thread machine. I could be wrong though, just getting antsy and wanting to complete the build. Is that the...
Another solid deal popped up on my radar today for a motherboard. It's LGA1155 socket, so I couldn't do a slightly more energy efficient Haswell build, but from my understanding the Ivy Bridge performs just as well as Haswell.
$80 - MSI Z77A-G45 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX...
I know we agreed on waiting, but the EVGA GeForce GTX 770 Dual FTW 4GB GDDR5 Video Card w/ ACX Cooler is on sale for $326 shipped... Should I jump on this.. maybe even get two for SLI?
I'll hold off and make this build for BF4 as it seems to be the best benchmark, and it's only a few weeks out.
Okay, I guess the smaller cases are out of the question then since I've already ordered that PSU. I thought that case fit all standard ATX PSUs; pardon my ignorance.
Thanks!
Hi Dangman,
Thanks for the info. I'm going to go ahead and purchase the PSU now.
I'm quite far from Microcenter, but I will be near the Richardson location around Thanksgiving week.
Good to know. I'm mostly looking forward to COD, but I'm sure BF4 will come along at some point as well. I can...
I'm currently running two systems with a total of about 13TB between them as my "media server". My second box's PSU failed on me, so I'm looking to revamp the setup. I'm ready to either get a dedicated WHS box or buy into something like a Synology NAS (I'm open to other brands, but these have a...
Well at this point I just bought another 2TB, and removed my only sub 1TB drive in my two machines. So I'm holding off to do more research. I really want an i7 (and a new GPU) in my gaming rig, so there is a good chance that I'll just take my q6600, as overkill as it might be for a WHS movie...
@OmegaAvenger - Thanks for the tip. I have a q6600 in my gaming rig, and the mobo would support two of the sata cards, So the thought has crossed my mind just to upgrade it to a core i7, and use my gaming rig's cpu/mobo/ram for a WHS. My only concern would be power consumption. I'm honestly not...
So I already have around 12TB's of bluray movies, and its getting to the point where i need a dedicated box to stream them to my HTPC in the living room and my gaming rig in the office.
Here are the things I'm 95% sold on:
Case: NZXT Whisper + 2 Hard Drive cages.
8-port Sata card x2...
Well if you do go the ATX route, my buddy has a WHS in the following setup, and its pretty awesome if you aren't feeling the Norco.
Get the NZXT Whisper case, which holds 9 drives.
Throw in two CM 4-in-3's increasing you up to 17 total drives.
This gives you 17 drives for about $160...
So i tried the Registry "hack" that DDR4040 said, and then switched it to the AHCI mode and it worked!
Thanks a lot guys, you saved me a bunch of time!
So when I did use the setting for AHCI, i did see more drives in the bios load screen. There were two things about it I found strange though. One was that none of the drives showed up in bios, where as it use to show 3, and secondly the drives list i saw post-splash screen weren't named, like...
I didn't see anything for additional drivers, but i'll check again. I tried booting in AHCI mode, and even RAID mode, both of which started to load windows, and then gave me a blip of the blue screen of death. =[
I appriciate the ideas though, keep them coming if anyone has any others.
I have installed the newest chipset drivers, and flashed the bios. Drivers are plugged into all slots. I went through the bios, and tried the three different "modes", SATA mode, RAID mode, and another that starts with an A i can't recall. Only the SATA mode showed any of the drives, and it only...
I have the ASUS M3N78-EM mobo, and for some reason it can only see the first 3 sata ports. They are colored red, where as the other two are black. My understanding is that the black ones are for a raid configuration, but i can't figure out how to just use them as standard SATA ports. Any help...
Sweet, i already have AnyDVD HD, so thats good news!
I guess i will mess around with it once i get my new board. What setting do y'all use in PowerDVD/TMT for the AC3? Or maybe its obvious.
How do you go about getting bitstreaming? Sorry, i'm a bit out of the game.
Ok, then i will probably stick with the 8300, as i have a chip to throw on it.
Ok, i knew that the HDAV card was the only way a while back, didn't know if that was still the case.
Is there any benefit of jumping to the 9300/9400 over the 8300? From my understanding it outputs LPCM via HDMI over 7 channels as well.
The WHS is on my list of things to buy, but i still wouldn't switch to the SageTV, or other streaming boxes. This is just because I have all of my blurays in iso form, and none of them (to my knowledge) can stream the iso, only mkvs and the like. I would much prefer not having to deal with the...
