I agree. For the SOHO segment, single thread and higher clock speeds will be better for AMD in terms of performance. The segment that "whatevs" is talking about is the server environment where lots of threads and multithreading really come into play; the server segment. Although I would like...
Hey guys, I was going to sign up for this, and I'm on the page, but it wants me to select a group based on astrological signs. Does that matter?
Never mind...I got it.
Kranium, with that in mind, I did look at the previous stats of that account, and that does appear to be mine, I just wanted to know where to do in the case that it is not. I do appreciate your help!
Thanks Kranium. Let's just assume for a moment that due to the time I have been away from this activity that I am neither of those two. What would I do then? I do admit that I did do a little F@H when the client was included with the ATi drivers, but due to stability issues I didn't continue...
OK guys, I had done some folding quite some time ago, but that was before they started using GPUs for processing. I'm already part of the SETI, Colatz, and M@H [H] teams. However, the interface for F@H has changed substantially since the last time I was doing it.
I'm trying to register at...
No need to worry about flashing. If you get a reference model card, it has a dual BIOS. There is a small switch on the card to switch over, so if the BIOS flash fails, you can get the card booted back up.
Flashed my MSI 6950 with no issues. Works great, and I even overclocked once the new...
Can some one point me to a link on this cursor problem? I've had a 4850, 4890, and currently a 6950 flashed to 6970, and have had zero driver issues. I'd be interested to know what this problem is about.
I'm more an ATi/AMD fan than NV, even though I've owned both for many years. Quite honestly, I've always had better luck with ATi drivers than NV drivers; your mileage may vary.
My most recent acquisition was an MSI 6950 that flashed to 6970 without issue. The card has given me even more...
Same here. Had a 4850, 4890, and now a 6950 (unlocked to 6970) and have not had any issues that are driver related. Most of my issues have been due to trying to wring just a little more out of my Q6600, and 3.32GHz is just all this one is going to give me.
Ahhh, very cool. Thanks a bunch. That worked like a charm, and quite easy. One simple CFG change and all is good. It upped my limits on the core and RAM.
While I prefer ATI cards myself, Civ V has proven to be better on NV cards in that higher levels of AA are possible, which will be desirable at that resolution.
Oh hell yes! Much appreciated!
Gahhhhhh! I just downloaded and tried and it says the program is the wrong version for my Windows. I'm running Vista 64-bit, so I'm thinking this is only compatible with 32-bit versions?
OK, downloaded from a different source, and the file now installs. I do...
I haven't played SOF2 in quite some time, and I don't even have it installed any more. The only things I still have installed are Q3 and Q3A, but I haven't had problems with either.
Maybe I'll install SOF2 again and see what happens.
I've only had my 6950 for a short while and only play Q3 on rare occasions, so I fired it up to see if I had problems. My Q3 ran flawlessly. What problems are you having?
The 69xx series cards have an aluminum plate that covers the entire backside of the PCB; with the exception of a few openings. This is part of the HSF mounting and keeps the card more than rigid enough. If this backplate can stay in place with the new cooler, there should be zero problems.

I'm using Afterburner to OC the card and 950MHz is the max on that slider. The latest version still isn't out, so I don't know if they will allow for higher OC on the core and will provide voltage adjustments, but I've made it this...
Yay, I actually get to vote. My MSI unlocked with no problems. I did have to execute the BIOS update via the command prompt, but it only took a few minutes and worked like a champ.
Running Furmark under Stability with Xtreme Burning Mode at 1920x1200 (native res) with 4x AA for 30 minutes...
While it's hard to tell from pictures, the shots of the internals look like the case is made of that cheesy metal material you normally see if very low-end cases, often with sharp edges. I relegated my old crappy cases made from that material to being my home domain controllers because I never...
Well, you didn't mention a price, so here is my suggestion. Yes, it is expensive, but it's a nice case, and it says right in the specifications that it will support video cards up to 16" long. This is just one link, but the case is also available in Yellow/Black and Blue/Black...
These are the comments from Newegg on that case.
Other Thoughts: i7-950, asus sabertooth, hd 6870, g.skill 6gb ddr3, corsair 750w, etc.
Cons: Space problems i had problems installing my ATI Radeon 5850 so for newer cards you will have problems
My guess is that you may have problems with...
That's what I like about my case. The drive cage can mounted in the front of the computer, anywhere from the top to the bottom of the chassis. If a card is too long, I just move my drive cage higher up in the case and open up another 8-9" of available space for a long video card.
Is this video a single 480? If it is, my guess is that the 5970 was running in single GPU mode. Did anyone notice that the 5970 power consumption numbers were significantly lower? I find it hard to believe that a dual chip based 5970 would be using that much less power than even a single...
I tried placing an order at Newegg a few months back. Placed the order Sunday morning, and by Tuesday afternoon the order hadn't even processed, let alone shipped. I canceled the order.
Best: XFX 4890 - Pretty good overclocker and still runs the games I want at resolution/graphics settings I desire.
Worst: eVGA 8800GT - Didn't OC for crap and had the buggiest drivers of any card I have ever owned.
All you need to do is look at the included "apples-to-apples" comparison at the bottom of the page. That shows you min FPS when configured with the same settings. The way [H] tests you can't look at min because they look at the highest playable setting for each card, so min FPS aren't...
OK, here's my answer to your question. Whether it's right or wrong, I don't know, it's just my opinion and speculation.
AMD needs cards in the $150-250 price segment to better compete with NVs offerings, while not simultaneously gutting their 58xx series sales prior to having quantities of...
