Ordered the backordered Asus card from Newegg.
Hopefully I'll get it before Mass Effect Andromeda.
edit:
refreshed the page, snagged the EVGA and cancelled the Asus card.
Looks like they're verifying my CC, got a ship date of 3/13
spicy edit: card charged
I buy a new video card every couple of years, as I suspect most of my fellow hardware enthusiasts here do.
By the time DX12 matters, Nvidia will have a card out that's optimized for the salient features.
This is a complete non issue.
I played that game for around two years, from beta til BFRs killed the game...

Maybe they put in the time limit because people were still playing and hosting the BF1942 Wake Island demo long after the game shipped - I know I did. :D
ATi just sent me a replacement Pro ViVo for the one my power supply took out when it died ( fuck you Antec ).
I think I'm gonna run some benches on the stock card, since the other two X800s I have are already 16 pipe and clocked considerably higher ( one softmodded Pro ViVo, one a "real" XT-PE...
Though I did see one ATi Pro ViVo (SN# 630430xxxxxxx) left the other day at CompUSA, the supply is fast drying up.
Your best bet is to buy a Sapphire ViVo online, or pay a little bit more for a "real" XT.
The difference seems like...hmm how to explain this...the ATI looks like watching TV on an older LCD tv and the 6800 is more like a plasma.
Check your in game texture settings and your driver's quality settings.
Sounds like you might have had anisotropic filtering on with your 6800 ( high...
This is what I don't get.
You see, I bought an X800 Pro ViVo, and this card was a monster right out of the box, before I even thought about softmodding it. Performance-wise, most people are not going to miss the four extra pipelines, it's really that fast.
The softmod netted better benchmark...
From the 4.11 release notes:
CATALYST 4.11 includes a memory allocation bug fix for all AGP RADEON products with 256 of MB of memory that significantly improves performance for applications that make intensive us of graphics memory.
Well, I'm glad ATi finally got around to addressing the...
I own a BFG 6800GT OC (currently @ 400/1.1), an MSI 6800 Ultra, a softmodded retail ATi X800 Pro ViVo (520/560) and a "real" ATi X800XT-PE.
Outside of benchmarks, there's really no noticeable difference in real-world usage, not enough to brag about anyway. I use all four machines at weekend...
I just picked up a BFG GeForce 6800 GT OC at Fry's for $350.
It's pretty damned fast for the money. I'm going to overclock it and see how close I can get to Ultra speeds. I noticed shimmering on my Radeon as well ( mostly in Planetside with AA/AF enabled). That kind of thing really doesn't...
Just got back from Fry's in Houston. The $349 price is good through 10/19.
They still have about 20 left, up on the overstock shelf. They have one on the display shelf in a jacked up box that looks like someone sat on.
I used my Best Buy hookup last night ( senior management ) to scour the entire country looking for XTs/XT-PEs. Out of all the stores in all the districts there was one XT-PE in a store in Maine. Since we had no way of knowing if it was brand new sitting on the shelf or open box/defective waiting...
...In which case I'll just upgrade to the next top of the line card.
In the meantime, I decided the performance difference between the GeForce 6800 and X800 cards wasn't enough to get super picky about, so I just bought both.
With both cards overclocked, any difference in performance while gaming is not noticeable enough to matter ( 1280x1024 ( 19 in. monitors) 2xAA 8XAF ). The 2D IQ of the X800 is slightly better at higher resolutions and refresh rates and the colors may be more vibrant as well. Those two 6800...
Only problem I had with 6800s ( I have two GTs) was shitty 2D quality on a few of the brands I've seen. I had a PNY I bought from CompUsatan that I replaced with a BFG from Best Buy. I have a BBATi X800 Pro ViVo modded with outstanding 2D quality, and BFG and Gainward are the only two 6800...
It was fun. It entertained me. I wasn't expecting the Second Coming of Christ on CD.
It helps to keep things in perspective. If you help hype something out of all sense of proportion of course you're going to be disappointed.

I could probably push the core past 510 with a volt mod, but I'm happy enough with stock performance at Pro speeds with 16 pipes. Memory will do 560 easily. Coming from a 9700 Pro, even an unmodded Pro is fast as hell.
I'm not going to volt mod or use anything other than stock cooling so...

Man, when you find out your squad leader got yoinked by some aliens and you're given orders to rescue her I was like "you want me to go where ?!"
The alien hive was one loaf-pinching mission all right.
Well, I'd get both!:D
Seriously, I've seen Bloodmoon selling separately for just $20 at Best Buy, and together with Morrowind and Tribunal as part of the Morrowind GOTY pack for $30.
KOTOR would be a nice ( albeit more linear) distraction if you get bored wandering around Vvardenfell...
