Well the last time I built a custom PC I was on an Athlon XP and a Radeon 9700, so now I'm really way out of the loop and trying to decipher all these new CPU numbering systems.
What I'm trying to do is build a basic PC for 80% home use (web, email, Office, etc) and also to do image editing...
What are people doing with full system scans now that disk capacity is getting so large?
I have my laptop with an internal 250gb SATA drive which has about 180gb full, and an external USB 1 TB hard drive, which is about 800gb full, mostly of archival type data, and a few sets of full backups...
I'm wanting to upgrade the hard drive in my Toshiba Tecra M4 tablet. The original 80gb hard drive has a shock sensor and program that parks the heads when shock is detected.
In general, do most replacement hard drives for laptops have this sensor now? I'm looking at this to replace it...
The printer is so old that there is no updated driver, just the supplied Vista driver. HP's website simply says "HP LaserJet and Color LaserJet products - products supported and drivers included in Microsoft Windows Vista."
And also, it is giving me this error even with the printer uninstalled...
No, the printer is rather old and is parallel only. It otherwise works perfectly fine and is great for my college printing needs.
I can't think of anything I did recently that would have triggered this either.
I have a Toshiba Tecra M4 laptop which I performed a clean install of Vista Business ~ 6 months ago. I have the docking station with it, which I use to connect my HP LaserJet 1100, external USB hard drive, mouse, keyboard, etc to.
Now I have had no issues with this setup until recently...
I have a Golden Orb CPU cooler which I've modded onto a videocard. The fan on it has gotten a bad bearing or something and is making a racket. I cannot find just a replacement fan for it. I don't feel like buying an entire Orb just to replace the fan. It is thermally epoxied on, so its a pain to...
Lastest nvidia IDE drivers installed.
Powersupply might well be the issue. It is a mATX PSU and is pretty cheap too. I checked hte specs - only !10! A on the 12v line!
I'm looking for replacement mATX PSUs, but there aren't a lot of high ouput models.
I'm looking at this...
I have a Western Digital 320gb SATA drive which I installed about 3 months ago. I find that occasionally I will go to access it and the drive letter is gone for that hard drive. I also noticed that copying to/from it causes 60-100% CPU usage, which is odd. I have an MSI Nforce2 mobo (matx) with...
I'm going off to college and buying a tablet PC. I will want to have any paper handouts and such in a digital format with my on the tablet. I'm looking into all-in-one printers that have document feeders.
I found these two candidates:
HP Officejet 5505...
I have a Klipsch Promedia 4.1 system from probably 4 years ago. Its been really great for that time, and sounds good all around. Yesterday I noticed that my rear left channel was out. There was nothing at all coming from that speaker. I swapped the leads from the rear right and left, and nothing...
If its fairly new and its a general hotswap bay, and built since the HP/Compaq merger (and maybe even if not) then I have a stack of DVD/CDROM drives that will fit. None of them are burners, but they oughta work. If you want to try one, PM me and I'll send you one for the cost of shipping it.
I am a pretty competetive gamer; I've won a few big Quake 3 and UT2k4 tournaments. I suppose really that my options at this time are limited to a 8ms 19" LCD @ 1280x1024 or a 16ms 20" LCD @ 1600x1200. I would certainly prefer 8ms time, but would also like the 1600x1200.
What are the chances...
I'm not a fan of the widescreen monitors, at least for what I will be using it for. I'd rather run a 4:3 resolution for games, and at a more standard resolution.
The widescreens have more screen real estate, but I value up and down size more than side to side... I rarely have to scroll left...
I see the Dell 2001fps often mentioned and recommended, and see the new 2005fpw discussed often, but I really can't find much in the way of reviews for other 20" LCDs.
What I want is a 4:3 LCD display with 1600x1200 resolution. Size isn't really a big deal. I'm coming from a 19" Samsung...
I'm going to ditch my software encoding based TV tuner in favor of a Hauppauge PVR card.
I saw on pcalchemy a bundle of the PVR150MCE and the MCE remote with USB IR reciever.
I just want to make sure before I buy all this that I can use it with regular Windows XP. I don't have Media Center...
OK I will try that. My HTPC is on all the time as well, just not neccesarily running Meedio (although that might change if I can get everything set up how I like it).
Any ideas on encoders? Don't mind if I have to buy it, but free would be nice. Of course if the softwares very expensive I'll...
Few questions with Meedio, if any of you use it.
First is that I have all my media stored across a network. I set it up to have my music and videos in Meedio, but whenever I load the program, it takes forever and stops on "importing <stuff>" where stuff is my music, or my videos etc.
Is...
Kinda what I expected. I don't game online, it'd be purely for download speeds. I'm frustrated with getting 60kb/sec on a good server with DSL, when friends nearby are getting closer to 200kb/sec...
Its just not even funny how much faster Comcast is around here for the same amount of money...
So I'm switching over from Verizon DSL to Comcast Cable internet. Verizon DSL around here sucks balls compared to Comcast, on a good day I get 500k down, whereas my neighbors are getting 2.8-3.0 mbps down, for the same amount of money.
Anyway, I'm going to have a month of overlap to ensure...
I have a card from an ATI video card, went yesterday and put in all the info, despite all the "info" screens not loading any text, just the fields. I went and it started "preloading" the game, waited until the bar went all the way over (after a number of hours), and then went to play. Screen...
I'm planning on buying a Sonata with the base 380watt PSU. I'm not sure if it will be enough to run everything I need..
Whats gonna be in it:
Chaintech 7NJS mobo
AXP 2500+ not o/c'd
120mm huge friggin fan w/ Zalman 7000
DVD-RW
DVD-ROM
80gb IDE Western Digital 7200rpm
200gb IDE Western...
Will this CPU cooler
Cooler Master E3W-N73EC-01
work with the Asus PC-DL along with two Xeon 1.6 socket 604 CPUs?
And if so will I need any special brackets/mounting stuff?
Would these CPUs work in the iWill DP400 board (link )..
The CPUs say socket 604 and the mobo says 603, but from what I've read 604 is just an extra pin for 533fsb, but these are 400fsb, meaning this extra pin would be unnecessary??
I have access to a lot of free RDRAM memory, so this...
Bump for a nice car, too bad I'm poor...
My dad used to have one of those, when I was like 5 or so. I remember those rear seats well. My dad's Porsche had the retaining device or whatever that held the up broken...
Every time we'd come to a stop it would fall on my head, because I wasn't...
Heres the deal. I got me a free PIII 800mhz laptop from a guy I know. Everything works fine except that the LCD doesn't display. I opened it up and saw why... The ribbon/pcb-ish cable coming from the LCD panel is neatly torn off close to the point where it connects to the mainboard. I guess it...
Heh I've done a few stupid things.
First was more to me than the case I was working on... In the span of about 2 hours I
1. Burnt myself on hot metal I had just cut. The kicker: I was showing a friend how to dremel, and my burn was preceded by a "Now don't touch the metal after you've cut it...
Just make sure you don't exert any pressure onto the plexi, or that hot glues gonna pop out!
I learned the hard way on my first mod.. First tried super glue, looked great, YAY pick up the case, don't think and put it window-side to my chest, *POP*
Right before the LAN party where I was...
I have Verizon DSL going into a Belkin (crap) router, and then to my various computers. For some reason I lose internet connectivity every 2 hours. Any ideas what would be doing this? I'm not sure if its the DSL, the modem, the router, or the computers...
My friend did this.. Looks cool and worked great for awhile, but now his calculator is really screwed up. Sometimes it wont turn on, or the whole screen will be black. Some times it artifacts. He has to hit it really hard to get it working. Also, if you add leds, remember if you wire them up to...
Can you edit the min and max core/ram speeds allowed on the slider in Rage3d? I have a 9700 np with a pro bios and have it set as low as the slider allows (290/279) but I want to start at np speeds and work up (I'm currently having stability problems, but not sure if its the video, so I'd like...
Here's the spec page for it..
http://www.thermaltake.com/products/AquariusII/aquariusII.htm
Anyway, I'm not so sure this is the thing for me.. If I'm doing watercooling, I'm doing it right. I'm probably gonna talk to my dad who gave it to me and see if I can return it and get something else.
I got a Thermaltake Aquarius II kit for Xmas, and as I've never water cooled I was left with a lot of questions after looking it over.
Mainly, how do you drain a system like this? I would be using this in my main computer, which goes to LAN parties occasionally. I don't want to have to build...
