SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

Sentry is back online! Note I have no gpu yet to choke with this orientation xD. 3200g. Also yeah I may as well rethink sff gpu unless I wanna watercool..only able to utilize 2/4 Sata ports. Fixing the riser card into the mobo was a nightmare per usual.. It never wants to get in the slot...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

Haha aww. Yeah you make a good point. It just so happens that my original mobo choice ended up taking so long to ship (3rd party Newegg) that I bought another one that can support Thunderbolt 3 displays...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

I haven't. There are a few things that stand out from that Amazon link most notably the lack of screen response time and any model number to further investigate. I see the Acer monitor on sale at micro center for $129, so I may take a trip over to Detroit when the world isn't topsy turney. I'm...

Yee usb c over micro is definitely an improvement in durability. It's something I'll have to consider. Glad to know it seems possible. Using the sentry at a cafe sounds too fun.

I Nay the Acer says power over micro USB. I'll def look into both more when necessary. I have a backpack that can def carry around the Sentry.

All I know is that with displayport alt half the usb c connectors are used for video transmission and the other half are used for USB power. I'm assuming that both of these monitors get around that by using one cable for video and another for power. I sell usb c to hdmi adapters here at Target...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

I dunno. It's something I'd have to test. I might jump for the Acer IF it can work due to its advertised 7ms response. Though I like that the msi one uses usb c for power as my mobo will have a USB c jack.

Thanks. I didn't find the card you speak of on Newegg, but I did find a gigabyte 2060 mini that seems to use the same design that I might get instead for $299 as it's only a $70 difference for ~500 Cuda cores. I've also been looking at this portable monitor...

I'm planning on rebuilding my 1.1 sentry soon. The screws are a bit of a pain, but it's a sturdy little thing. It's not 2.0 but I still love the thing. Do ya'll think this card can fit sentry 1.1? Form Factor & Dimensions Form Factor ITX Max GPU Length 170 mm Card Dimensions (L x H)...

Oh those? Those are lost and gone. XD edit: even so, I'd prefer some that are more stable. I don't recall them being firmly attached. Not to harp on the sentry, I love it <.<.

It's been a while. My mini itx mobo ended up blowing, and kaby lake isn't supported(thanks intel). My little sentry is sitting in a box with it's sfx psu. I've been thinking of getting a laptop, but I've also been thinking of rebuilding the sentry, and finding a portable monitor for roughly...

    Asrock H270M-ITX/ac Beware Wifi Issue

I love my H270m ITX/ac. It has SO many USB ports. I personally don't use the wifi much at all, but it has served me well enough (I blame my 5 year old router more) when I did. Stuff happens. It could be much worse than something as simple as using a few fingers.

SENTRY 2.0: Evolution of console-sized gaming PC case

I am also going to attempt the 40mm fan modification (not that it's much). I unfortunately won't have my room air conditioned this summer, and Michigan can get surprisingly hot. I already have the CPU sealed off, so I wonder how this will fair.

SENTRY 2.0: Evolution of console-sized gaming PC case

The revisions look great, I looked at the images a few times/ I think the ventilation improvements are very subtle and effective, and people will be able to see more of their components which could lessen the desire for a transparent panel. I can't wait until you guys test it! I would love to...

SENTRY 2.0: Evolution of console-sized gaming PC case

Those are questions for the DIY folks, haha. I'm just hoping to give those same people ideas if they haven't considered it already. If it was me I might just get a slim 140mm fan and some foam tape. I would drill four holes around the 140mm circle and use some kind of string/zip tie material...

SENTRY 2.0: Evolution of console-sized gaming PC case

Is it possible to cut a rounded rectangle into the backside of the Sentry? No idea which specific material one would use but with some serious DIY people they might have the determination to find a way. One of you representatives for Dr. Zaber mentioned taking the Sentry to a metal shop to get...

SENTRY 2.0: Evolution of console-sized gaming PC case

Glad to see you guys are following up with version 2.0. Can't really think of anything major to change. The concern with the vertical stand seems a bit too much, and if someone is really worried about another person bumping it they may as well lay it flat only the real concern there would be...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

I'll add more credit to weatherstripping. I don't do it for my GPU, but it helps the NH-L9i quite a lot. Incidentally, the loudest thing now is my HDD's..

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

Sentry is very interesting when it's not being used as a powerhouse and a space heater. Even in a atmospheric case you'd likely need more case fans to at least get the hot air out. With this case, though, I can sen the CPU fan to 20% until 40C and the GPU fans don't move at all until 60C. In my...

There are a few Sentry offers on Ebay if anyone is interested. It's now been about 8 weeks since the 7th shipment was sent. Hopefully everyone has their own little case for the holiday shopping deals and the winter. You guys really outdid yourself over at the Dr Zaber team.

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

For the riser, you wanna have the pcp behind the holes you screw into, meaning the pcp should be more towards the mobo and you're NOT trying to screw into the riser's pcb(meaning if you're trying to do this, the riser isn't even in all the way). If you have trouble fitting it, which you could...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

I did.. Those cables are insane. I managed to snake the SATA power and data under the riser card for one of the drives, but I had to chip off unneeded plastic from the right angle data cable. They're miles away from clothish (nylon?) cables, but they work..

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

While the weatherstripping tape does well at idle, during a game intense enough to work my 1060 (in this case FFXIV) the circulation of air around the case is so prominent. The CPU ends up gathering hot air that is hovering around the outside of the case, brinign it to ~50C while the GPU hovers...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

I must say, I'm glad the Sentry uses hex screws. I really don't like phillips screws.. I stripped two already trying to fit my hard drives in. I'm surprised how hot the PSU gets. I've not gamed yet, but so far temps look better than my Air 240 with stock fans. I imagine weatherstripping the...

Welp my unit 962 arrived roughly 5 weeks after shipment, which was much earlier than I expected. Transport wasn't bad at all. A few bumps, and one to the internal box, but nothing touched the case. Assembly was fun! I've never worked with a SFF case before, so it was rather hard. It I didn't...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

I only have one stick. Trying the other ram slot was one if the first things I did. Bent pins doesn't make sense either because the cpu and heatsink were attached when I transferred the system and it worked before the process. Still, I can check if you advise it.

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

Got a speaker. It won't boot or make a post code with the ram inserted. Without the ram, though, and the pc running, it gives 3 beeps, which I believe is a ram code. Am I to assume that the ram is bad because it does not give another error code?

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

Ahh, I was naive. Still, the thing runs without RAM unless it only damaged the ram slots, and you're right about the Nh-l9i screws. I did try it without the gpu and with the basic configuration you describe. I've gotten different results from different PSUs. The SF450 will click and nothing...

M.2 out, still no go. I did have nothing under the mobo, that is correct. I changed that shortly after that picture with a box. I can try to pick up a beeper later when I go out.

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

I think I could have damaged the ram slot. I left the ram in when I transferred and did need to apply some force because initially I was weatherstripping the cooler and had to press tape on top of the ram. Plus I mightve grabbed the ram from the side as I picked the mob up because it's so close...

The gpu does fit. I didn't have those power connectors plugged in because I already tried it with them plugged in and at that point I was just testing different configuration. SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

Sentry arrived yesterday. Took nearly 5 weeks. Assembly wasn't bad, I mostly blame the cables. Problem is it didn't boot. I removed a few things and eventually the psu started flicking on and off rapidly. After some research and troubleshooting, it will turn off if I remove the ram. I've tried...

I don't doubt your testing. I was more or less appealing to AgSheild and those who wanted more. Heck you could go and 3D print larger feet if need be. This will be the 2nd week of shipping progress. Can't wait.. I can hear my stock fans on the Air 240 start making noises.. Think they are...

SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

Instead of reusing the vertical stand, you could manufacture a metal stand for the horizontal position, as well. It could be two parts like AgShield suggested only it would insert into the holes that are for the rubber feet. It seems overkill but it also seems people might want more than rubber...
