Just to update here.
This is the 34" monitor i was looking at:
http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-34UM88-P-ultrawide-monitor
1440P and i would get 75mhz refresh rate with the FreeSync.
Correct me if i am wrong, but that gives me higher resolution and pixel density would should in theory provide...
ahh, i should have clarified. I would definitely go with the 4k 34" monitor based off folks notes here. Sorry about that, but that would be my direction for sure.
SUper helpfful info guys.
Just thought i would update real quick.
My friend brought over the 29" monitor last night.
i plugged it in and used it for a bit before going to bed.
Awesome colors. Very nice. I can already see a huge difference in how much better it is over my older monitor. Night...
will do. Biggest thing i am looking for outside of a nice colors, is text that is easy to read (websites, email, coding, games etc.) to reduce any stress onmy eyes. Going from a 24" to a 29" should be huge, but going from a 24" to a 34" should be massive. I could increase the font size for...
Let me ask what more thing. A friend of mine is going to loan me the following monitor:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DMPK6DU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it is a curved 29" IPS panel. I know this resolution is slightly lower, but it is a smaller monitor. How would the...
sharpness and clarity of text is important for me since i do a lot of coding/reading on a screen. Wondering if i should rethink my purchase and go for 3440x1440 ?
Thanks. Appreciate it.
I guess i should ask, should i look at the higher resolution (3440x1440p)? I think the text mine be pretty tiny but i may be wrong.
thx
Going to pick up the LG 34" curved gaming monitor for work and play here.
Just wanted to know what kind of power i would need to run my activities.
The montior is IPS, 34", 144hz refresh and AMD freesync.
I have a Radeon R9 Fury i picked up on cybermonday.
For work, lots of sysadmin/dev ops...
Ya, in my research and testing, i find that to be the same. I am trying to find a nice monitor in this range that has 2580x1500 (or whatever it is). I am a bit hesitant to go with anything less than a 32" monitor that has 4K (3840xwhatever) because the text may be super small.
seems hard to...
Hey folks.
Pretty straightforward. I am looking for a IPS monitor in the 28-32 (maybe even into the 34" range).
primary uses are work related (sysadmin, coding, scripting) secondary is gaming.
Good color, crisp and sharpness are what i am going for. I am casual gamer.
From what i can tell...
So i finally received my omen, set it up today (upgraded GPU to a Radeon R9 Fury).
First thoughts. Huge. Tons of space to work with.
Still need to test for a a few days thought, but something i noticed and wanted to ask here.
I wear computer glasses when i work as i spend a lot of time in...
I checked, but didnt see any. I figure with all the great deals around right, great time to grab a PSU.
Just grabbed a EVGA 850W PSU (Johnny Guru recommended one) that should give me plenty of power and room to grow.
Thanks for the feedback and help.
kinda wondered that when is saw the pins and it didnt start up.
on a side note, i have not found many PSU's with 2x8pin PCIE power...anyone have a few they recommend?
Thanks Ruoh. It is modular. I will double check the connections, but pretty sure it was correct.
i will check the connections to and from the PSU. see what happens.
let me ask this:
The PSU has (2) six pin connectos from the PSU to the GPU.
However, the GPU has (2) 8 pin connectors on it...
Grabbed this beast of a GPU about a week ago on sale at newegg.
Finally getting around to installing it today, but ran into a snag.
Does not power up.
I verified it is installed that i had power to it, which it did.
For reference, upgrading from a Geforce 660 TXi GPU.
I started to dig around...
Hey folks.
Wondering if my current PSU is good enough or if i need to upgrade.
My current PSU:
SeaSonic M12II 620w Bronze

i recently purchased a R9 Fury card here:
Radeon R9 Fury...
Just bought the Omen from Costco. Going to give it a go. Did read some posts in the HP Omen 32 thread that concern me.
Will give it a shot and if i have to, i can return it.
Will respond back once i test.
thx
Building on this:
just curious, the HP omen 32" compared to this list:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?CompareItemList=20%7C0JC-000D-003Z3%5E0JC-000D-003Z3%2C24-005-700%5E24-005-700%2C24-025-344%5E24-025-344
Just thought i would throw that out there since they are all...
Thinking of grabbing this card as part of my new setup.
Looking at the HP 32" Omen and this 34" LG display:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824025424
Curious, would this card be enough for either monitor? 4gb memory maybe a bit light?
Thx
Thanks for the feedback. I was looking at that monitor, but also came across this one as well:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824025424
EDIT: Let me ask this. Would the above card have enough power and memory to run a 32 or 34 inch monitor (the one I linked here?) It has...
Awesome. Thank you very much Mokkat. Really appreciate your feedback. Good to hear about the PWM free monitors these days.
Just for curiosity, are there any monitors you would recommend in the 28" range and 30" range? Just comparing price and real estate on my desk to see my best option.
EDIT...
Hoping for some help here.
Looking to upgrade from a 24 to a 28 or 32 inch monitor.
Primary use will be spit between work (IT, coding, scripting, devops) as well as gaming on the side when i have time (Eve online, World of Warships).
One thing i have been researching pretty extensively is how...
Just thought I would update with some items since my last post.
I narrowed down a mobo/cpu combo for my new ESXi build
Here is what I found:
Setup #1: Mobo: (up to 64gb memory supported)
Supermicro | Products | Motherboards | Xeon® Boards | X11SSi-LN4F
CPU option 1: Intel Xeon E3-1220 v5...
Thanks again Netwerkz101.
I thought about this and think i am going to take your advice and will update my CPU. i just thought it would be better to have the extra cores and power, just in case. It would be unfortunate to buy the CPU, only to realize rather quickly, you need a faster CPU. I'll...
Thanks Netwerkz101. That is super helpful information and helps me plan out my setup
In regards to cooling, did you do additional cooling in your chassis?
makes me wonder if i should look for a 2U, just for extra space and cooling.
I liked the idea of doing a 1U in a rackmount for ease and it...
Thanks Netwerkz101. Really appreciate it. Fantastic information.
Would a chassis like that work with something like this:
Mobo:
SUPERMICRO MBD-X11SSI-LN4F-O ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1151 Intel C236 - Newegg.com
CPU:
Intel Core i5-6500 6M Skylake Quad-Core 3.2 GHz LGA 1151 65W BX80662I56500...
Really liking that setup.
One chassis is that for the compute nodes?
i am about the pull the trigger on something very similar. just trying to pick the right chassis for the job.
Very slick.
Hey all. Just quickly update here.
Turns out my lab is growing. Wife came told me today she wants a home media setup so we can store all or DVD's and Blu-rays and accessing them via something like Plex and make it easier for her and my kids to find movies (instead of digging through cases.)
Cool...
ya, i started to look at memory and that is expensive.
i think i should be good with 32gigs. If i can upgrade to 64, even better.
The big thing I keep coming back to is power draw. I may end up with a few of these at my house (3 tops), and i would like it to NOT raise my electricity bill.
I am...
Hello friends.
As the title states, looking for some suggestions and feedback to upgrade and improve my home lab.
I currently have a shuttle box running a Intel quad core with 32gb memory. Internally, it has (2) 10,000 SCSI drives.
My lab is going to be mostly Linux (some solaris), and...
Even better.
On a quick side note here, what do folks use for backup? I have never tried the free VEAM solution, but as my lab grows, it may be an option. Can you install that on a VM on the ESXi box, or better to make it a physical machine?
Thx folks.
TCG
I definitely could and do right now. I really want to use a web browser as i VPN 95% of the time from my Macbook Pro.
I will look into VMUG. Does it provide the web interface by chance?
I am totally cool with sticking with ESXi if it can do what i want.
the only other two items i really...
