Would like to wire a residential high rise such that residents could split internet bill. What would be the ideal design for such network: 1. Allow each unit to choose to be provider or consumer through the shared network, thus the case that two units wants to offer sevices of different...

    Moto X vs iPhone 5

The X8 has some real innovations and making good sense on the smartphones. Too bad Moto wasn't maxing out on the sensors, it could have beaten the SameSons without self destruction at the spec war. But the more I read, the more I am reading the battery life isn't all that great. The noise...

    Powerline ethernet options

Remove any extension cords if any, wall plugs are OK. I had a extension cord and after removing it the speed jumped. From my past testing, power has better ping than wireless.

Broken RamDisk IMG file - Rescue??

I discovered after a electrical brown-out the img file the DataRam RamDisk wold no longer load the image at start up. I believe it was corrupted as I could not open them using 7zip like I was able to. I wondered if the corrupted files can be repaired or partially rescued. So the question is how...

Another point, if the wiring are the same zone. I am no electrician to explain this, but certain combinations of locations didn't work in my apartment. I assume different outlets were on different breakers therefore different circuits?? Does anyone know how to test this? I would advise buying...

    Networking Graduate Programs

Yea in administrative or accounting field where there are a ton of low skilled level jobs having problem to be filled due to lack of headroom and earning potential, yes, over-qualification is a cliche excuse and is discouraging. But at the same time it says lack of qualification for pursuing...

    WEP security question

This thread is very relevant to SOHO info security today. My field is not networking but because of technical background I was asked as a favor to research on security measures a small non profit can implement (i.e. not costing $$), made a list of to do and now I am discovering some of the...

Master as professional master degrees in your field, yes, better employment, boosts the starting salary. Master as MBA, no, wait until the econ data pick up, or do well on the job that the company wants to pay for it so they can put you in mgnt position when the econ picked up. Networking is a...

    Software to Remote View/Manage Workstations?

This helps tracks time for billing: http://www.timedoctor.com/features.html#time_tracking Sending imaging is least efficient compared to using remote protocols; there may be quite a bit of delay given remote uplink type/throughput.

    Powerline adapters: is this possible?

The one-to-two should work, and any combo of linkage you mentioned will work. I only have a pair of D-Link DHP-303 200mbps, the actual fastest speed ever was 10MB/s, 4ms latency. Depend on your link, I had to make sure there's no surge protector or long extension cords. Also, the inside wiring...

    NTFS compression on SSD

    Cost-benefit calculation?

Here is 3 cases I could accept as justifications from myself: 1. Earn incremental revenues: Does this provide new capabiilty i.e. get a job, get new businesses, do things more efficiently thus generate savings? 2. Cut costs: Electricity might be a few hundreds compared to running two boxes...

    Can iPad Burns DVD?

Dear all, Is it technically possible to connect a (USB) DVD burner to iPad? Working on a packing list before going abroad for extended period, and realized that I would have to keep dumping data off the ipad. I used to do this with a laptop, encrypt the files and mail home or relatives. But...

    iDevice-to-iDevise streaming/sharing

So here is what I've found: I installed "Phone Drive" on iPad, and "iFile" on the 3GS, and all I had to do is to initiate a Bluetooth connection from the source, accept the file sharing on the destination device and file will transfer. I used Bluetooth because 3GS does not support Wifi personal...

    iDevice-to-iDevise streaming/sharing

I hope I am correct in the following reasoning: This looks like a client interface for a physical NAS server by the QFile cluster array manufacturer. In the mobile setting, I could be setting the old beaten up iPhone as the NAS server and serve content exclusively to my iPad client. Lot's of...

    iDevice-to-iDevise streaming/sharing

Hi Globox, Using Apple TV to access content a NAS device is an interesting use case, I suppose the problem I am having is on the part how to make a 3GS 16GB to look like a NAS so it can be accessed by Apple TV, or iPad, or even non-Apple device for both video and document files.

    iDevice-to-iDevise streaming/sharing

Hi Zepher, I thought I was rationale to trade more space for 4G capability on iPad3, but now I think 16GB in a year will barely satisfy the installed apps. Mobile hotspot drive is the ultimate idea, in a way I want my old 3GS 16GB to emulate exactly that, such that I only carry/manage/charge...
