Windows Update frozen on fresh 7 install

Thanks. Yes, I googled it. Like I said, I found as many results as if I had searched for the word "the," and each result indicated some different course of action, it was completely overwhelming and after trying a half dozen, I gave up and re-installed Windows. Still sitting there spinning...

Windows Update frozen on fresh 7 install

I just installed Windows 7 SP1 on a new PC, immediately ran Windows update. It hung for two days at the "checking for updates" screen until I got fed up and started troubleshooting. For every post on the web, there is a different solution. Unable to try them all, I tried six or seven, then...

Bent pins -- bent back, works?

Hi guys. Got an 1155 MB that had a couple of bent socket pins. I tried it with an i7 and got into BIOS, and was able to start to boot Ubuntu off a USB stick, and it would hang shortly afterwards. I carefully bent the pins back, and as near as my bad eyes can tell with a magnifying glass...

Pointing yagi antenna at wifi camera?

Good call on the parabolic. I'd like to get theory as certain as possible before I start buying parts, only to find that it doesn't work. I appreciate the replies guys. I had planned on testing this in an open field (this project is for a target camera so LOS will never be a problem, just...

Pointing yagi antenna at wifi camera?

I had originally planned on using two Nano Ms, but cost has become an issue. If I have a camera *with* a removable antenna, I can use two cheap $25 (or even homemade) yagi's..... just not sure if the range would be there. I know the Nanos are high power. Not sure if low power + yagi's would...

Pointing yagi antenna at wifi camera?

Not really sure where to post this, but I have a question. If I have a wireless IP camera (let's assume with an internal, non-upgradable antenna), can I point a highly directional yagi at it to extend range? I know a pair of directionals aimed at each other would be ideal, but the cameras I am...

Help me bridge two networks with wifi

As soon as we buy the house and own it, this is what I will be doing :D Would love to based on the research I've done, but all of the AC routers and APs I've looked at have very mixed reviews. Before I drop $200/ea on a pair, I'd like to know they'll be solid from a reliability standpoint...

Help me bridge two networks with wifi

Thanks man. I have UAPs, the UAP-ACs don't have the uplink functionality (yet, its in beta and not working at all as per the Ubiquity forums). I spent all night trying to get the uplink feature to work on my UAPs, and couldn't. Posting to the forums, was told that they won't act as...

Help me bridge two networks with wifi

Gang, I have a wired network downstairs, and a wired network upstairs. I need to get the two talking, and I can't run wires. I have a pair of POE adapters, and they suck. I can't use coax cable, its not in the walls. I have to use wifi (or some wireless tech). The wired networks are...

    New MB/CPU?

Upwards of 6.5GB RAM in use at any given time, on average; Windows 7; a Silverstone Sugo SG03 (MicroATX), and right now a Samsung F4 1TB. CPU usage varies, but idles between 5-18%; loads hit 100% for a few seconds periodically, but for the most part stay below 50%.

    New MB/CPU?

Gang, I presently run a quad core AMD Phenom II @ 3.8GHz with 8GB RAM and Win7. I do *a lot* of multitasking... Firefox has over 50 tabs open at any given time, same for Chrome. I don't close apps often, I usually leave them open and the system stay up for months at a time. I average 6.5GB...
