WD 3TB AV-GP... Wdidle3 suggests that Intellipark is disabled... by default.

Is this right? I bought 12 hard drives and all of them have the Intellipark feature disabled. Am I reading this right? Are they hiding the fact that it's on? Verbatum: Idle3 Timer is disabled. What's your guys' take on this?

    NAS4Free 36TB File Server Build

Here's a video of the issue. Between GF on the phone and my phone trying to focus, it's unnecessarily loud. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYpV86b7Ygk&feature=youtu.be

    NAS4Free 36TB File Server Build

Just received everything. My RAM isn't compatible with the board, so I'm going to have to return it and get something else. FOR FUCK SAKES It says right here that the RAM I chose should work. FFS EDIT: So I called Kingston who said that they support the motherboard. Then I called NCIX and...

Supermicro X9SCL -O -F : Compatible with Ivy Bridge OOTB?

Recently got an X9SCL -F with i3-3220. It is incompatible. It won't post. Called Supermicro and they said they do not support the i3 desktop Ivy Bridge models on the X9SCL -F boards, which is news to me, because I've only read that it WORKS from people online, never read that it doesn't...

    Supermicro X9SCL -F-O won't post...

So I took out my Sandy Bridge CPU from my main build, just so I can update the BIOS and run Ivy Bridge on this thing. It didn't post with Ivy Bridge, so I put in my Sandy Bridge and it still won't post; mind you, when I had Ivy Bridge in, the server would fluctuate between on and off (the...

    Would you RMA this drive?

In a raidz2 array and has had one pending sector since it has turned on... never increased that number and has never acted up at all. But lately I'm getting these errors in my log: And here is the SMART log: It's under warranty for another two years. The drive is a Samsung HD204UI...

    Intellipark: Disable, or delay?

Last call on opinions before I do some fwiddling (see what I did there) with my build and lock it down.

    Intellipark: Disable, or delay?

I would never set them to 3 seconds... 300 seconds would definitely be the only option... or disabling, but I've heard too many horror stories about disabling Intellipark.

Yeah, I think that makes most sense. Thanks all. I'll let you know my results.

    Intellipark: Disable, or delay?

Well, I've got 12 3TB AV-GPs ready to go in a pool, so it's too late to go back. :P Despite your advice, I know that it's very common to use WD drives with Intellipark in ZFS arrays, however ill-advised it is, and so I'd like to hear from these people their experiences. Thanks for the link...

    Intellipark: Disable, or delay?

Wondering what the general consensus here on WD's Intellipark feature is. A lot of people say disable it, some set it to 300 seconds.. What's the best practice for giving your drives the best chance at a long life? I'm putting a bunch of these in a ZFS build and I'd like some clarity on...

Supermicro X9SCL -O -F : Compatible with Ivy Bridge OOTB?

Thanks a lot for the info Pandakun, Damn, that's a bit worrisome, as I won't have another chip to use incase I can't flash to the latest BIOS... might have to roll the dice on this one. But again, really appreciate the information. ;)

Supermicro X9SCL -O -F : Compatible with Ivy Bridge OOTB?

I'm about to buy the aforementioned board, this: http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon/c202_c204/x9scl-f.cfm I'm wondering if it will work with the latest i3 Ivy Bridge CPUs... anyone here know or have experience? Really appreciate it.

    NAS4Free 36TB File Server Build

Moreover, I see here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182251 That they support second generation i3... would that not be Ivy Bridge CPUs? I can't see a change log for the BIOS updates on Supermicro's site. Did you hear anywhere in particular that it won't work OOTB?

    NAS4Free 36TB File Server Build

I think I'll see how it goes with 8GB and go from there. Like I said, only going to be 4 users maximum on the server at all times. And that will be a rarity.

    NAS4Free 36TB File Server Build

I did go with the X9SCL -F... I won't be using those mobo features. This is just going to be plugged into one of my monitors upon first setup, unplugged, and tucked away. And yeah, truthfully, I'm a bit worried about the WD drives... it's a risk that I'm willing to take though at this price...

    NAS4Free 36TB File Server Build

Last time around, I posted my prospective build. It fell through because when I went to buy my hard drives (from Futureshop), Seagate just pulled all their Barracudas with 5 year warranties, and they swapped them for the 1-year warranty 'Cudas. I wasn't buying that. Since then, I've had some...

Are these drives good for a NAS?

Is there data on the failure rates on these?

Are these drives good for a NAS?

Where are you getting the high failure rate info from? http://www.storagereview.com/western_digital_avgp_3tb_review Suggests they're pretty solid drives. I'm getting a wicked bargain on these ($115 a piece, after taxes). So I'm trying to find a reason to just bite the bullet here.

I think I'll grab 12 of these. They seem pretty great!

Are these drives good for a NAS?

Interersting. I assume with ECC ram and ZFS (2), data integrity shouldn't be one of my concerns, if I get a bunch of these drives, correct?

Are these drives good for a NAS?

I already have an IBM M1015... that good enough? The other 4 will be run off the mobo (Supermicro)

Are these drives good for a NAS?

About to build a relatively big ZFS NAS... wondering about these drives: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136926&Tpk=wd30eurs Any good? I don't want them compared to other drives, I just want to know if they'd be good in a FreeNAS build (ZFS(2))

    WD Red drives?

If you print screen that page, there's no way they'd deny your warranty on year 4. No way.

    Seagate or Hitachi?

It's really arbitrary; there's no right answer. While I'd suggest Hitachi, they're going out of business (or being eaten up by WD, which ever you'd prefer) and if RMA one down the line, you won't be getting the same one back, so if uniformity is your thing, I'd go with Seagate. I've personally...

    XFX - RMA Nightmares

I purchased two XFX 6870s a year ago. They ran OK. Crossfire was messy. Eventually, they both broke down. In fact, the first one broke about 3 months ago. I send in a ticket to XFX. Decent reply time, maybe 2 business days. They tell me to test my card and isolate it. I do, still having...
