Is this right? I bought 12 hard drives and all of them have the Intellipark feature disabled. Am I reading this right? Are they hiding the fact that it's on? Verbatum: Idle3 Timer is disabled. What's your guys' take on this?

I would never set them to 3 seconds... 300 seconds would definitely be the only option... or disabling, but I've heard too many horror stories about disabling Intellipark.

Well, I've got 12 3TB AV-GPs ready to go in a pool, so it's too late to go back. :P Despite your advice, I know that it's very common to use WD drives with Intellipark in ZFS arrays, however ill-advised it is, and so I'd like to hear from these people their experiences. Thanks for the link...

Wondering what the general consensus here on WD's Intellipark feature is. A lot of people say disable it, some set it to 300 seconds.. What's the best practice for giving your drives the best chance at a long life? I'm putting a bunch of these in a ZFS build and I'd like some clarity on...

I think I'll see how it goes with 8GB and go from there. Like I said, only going to be 4 users maximum on the server at all times. And that will be a rarity.

I did go with the X9SCL -F... I won't be using those mobo features. This is just going to be plugged into one of my monitors upon first setup, unplugged, and tucked away. And yeah, truthfully, I'm a bit worried about the WD drives... it's a risk that I'm willing to take though at this price...

Where are you getting the high failure rate info from? http://www.storagereview.com/western_digital_avgp_3tb_review Suggests they're pretty solid drives. I'm getting a wicked bargain on these ($115 a piece, after taxes). So I'm trying to find a reason to just bite the bullet here.

If you print screen that page, there's no way they'd deny your warranty on year 4. No way.

It's really arbitrary; there's no right answer. While I'd suggest Hitachi, they're going out of business (or being eaten up by WD, which ever you'd prefer) and if RMA one down the line, you won't be getting the same one back, so if uniformity is your thing, I'd go with Seagate. I've personally...
