OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I've updated. Unfortunately, I have to wait a month to see if the update works :-) Thanks for your help, _Gea.

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I am running OmniOS r151008 and Napp-It v0.9e-1_preview. I've had a scrub job setup for a while now that never runs. I have to run it manually. I've tried re-creating the job, but have the same issue where it refuses to run. The job uses the "First Sunday of the Month" @ 23:00 hours. It was...

Supermicro SC846 4U JBOD Replacement Fans

So, the SM 846 arrived yesterday. I put up some pictures and a short video on Google+. Here ya go. The PSU fans weren't that loud at all. I know the case fans will be so I'll be looking for quiet chassis fans now. Thanks for everyone's input!

Supermicro SC846 4U JBOD Replacement Fans

I do have an SM motherboard (in my Sig). I will be running ESXi for the foreseeable future. I do not plan to fill the chassis right now. I will have 4 SAS drives and possibly 7 SATA drives. We'll see. I know SATA drives don't like being on an expander, but this is only a single expander and...

Supermicro SC846 4U JBOD Replacement Fans

Didn't do the job of cooling? That's the problem. Those backplane fans not only cool the drives (which I won't even be nearly filling up yet), but they also cool the CPUs. I've got dual Xeon E5520s with the SM fanless heatsink. I hope the 120mm fans I have will work. Do you have a picture...

Supermicro SC846 4U JBOD Replacement Fans

Thanks for the info. However, the chassis does come with fans, I'm just certain they're noisy. The motherboard going into the chassis is the one listed in my sig. Supermicro X8DTH-6F with dual CPUs and passive heatsink fans.

Supermicro SC846 4U JBOD Replacement Fans

Haha! Every time I've powered up an SC846 JBOD, I've been in a server room. It's always noisy in there :-) Guess I'll find out next week!

Supermicro SC846 4U JBOD Replacement Fans

I've won an eBay auction for a used SM SC846 4U JBOD. I'll be putting this in my apartment. I know the fans are quite loud. They're 80mm, but they're very thick. They have 3 pins. There are 3 along the backplane, and 2 at the back. Does anyone know of any good, quiet replacement fans for...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Tonight I ran an update from r151006 to latest stable (r151008). After the update ran, i got a message that Napp-It was creating a boot environment for 0.9b. I had been running 0.9e-1 before the update. After the machine reboot, NappIt won't come up. I tried to reinstall but got a Perl...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Napp-It Question/Feature Request: Would it be possible for the scrub/snap time periods to be adjusted? Specifically, I don't want to scrub my pool every week. I'd like to do it once a month on a Sunday. Say the 4th Sunday of every month. From what I can tell, that's not possible now...

    SM SC847E26-RJBOD1 good?

It's good. I'd say upper middle of the range. In my mind, it doesn't get much better than the DataON JBODs. They have a 60 bay JBOD. It's a wee bit pricey. The SuperMicro chassis/JBOD is good if you don't need a highly available configuration. The SM JBOD only has 2 inputs and no user...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Running OmniOS v11 r151006 and Napp-It 0.9b3. I'm trying to figure out how to set a monthly scrub job. I just want a scrub to run once a month on the first Sunday night. Any guidance? Thanks!

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

How is your RAIDZ2 pool configured? You can always throw some data on the pool then do a scrub of the pool. That'll tell you if the drives have issues. I think there's some kind of IO test built into Napp-It, but I've not tried it. Check out YouTube as I think I saw a video about it there.

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I do have snapshots set to visible. Glad its not a major misconfiguration. Thanks, _Gea! Can anyone explain the CLI difference between CIFS share level ACLs and folder level ACLs? I can see the different links in napp-it, but I want to set these ACLs via the CLI. I'm assuming that the...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I'm now trying to get my CIFS working correctly. It's not going well. I read on this thread that the "tank" pool is where authentication polls first. I was trying: /usr/bin/chmod -R A- /tank/ And I got thousands of this error: chmod: ERROR: Read-only file system What am I doing wrong...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I did a: rolemod -u 500 napp-it Then I had to: chown -R napp-it:root /var/web_gui Then I tried to access the web interface. I was getting strange errors related to permissions: Who are you 1001? So I did an: /etc/init.d/napp-it restart And that seemed to fix the issue...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

What is the consequences of changing the 'napp-it' UID/GID from what it was installed with (in my case 1001) to a UID > 500. I have lots of users already created from an old zfs dataset and they have UIDs 1000+. I'm running OmniOS v11 r151006 and Napp-It 0.93b from Sept 10 2013. Or is there a...

    Supermicro cases and compatibility issues

This gives me hope that the SM 942S-600B (With non-redundant 650W PSU) that I bought of CraigsList for $25 will be compatible with my SM X8DTH-6F motherboard. I'll have to jury rig some 120mm fans to the inside chassis as the hot swap fan clips are broken and I can't seem to find any online...

Phase 13+ LSI FW for SM X8DTH-6F

As the title states, I have a SuperMicro X8DTH-6F motherboard. It has an onboard LSI 2008 chipset that has Phase 10 IT firmware. I'm using FreeNAS and in order to move up to release 8.3, I need to have Phase 13 firmware. The #freenas channel on Freenode is saying that I shouldn't be using...

Correct HBA for SuperMicro Chassis w/MPIO

I suppose this isn't ideal? If I wanted to expand to another JBOD, I'd want separate SAS HBAs?

Correct HBA for SuperMicro Chassis w/MPIO

Yeah, I'm aware of the diff SM chassis backplanes. I'd be purchasing SAS drives for the 24/7 use and longer MTBF. I use them at work, and I've had consumer drives crap out on me too often to really trust them anymore. So, I could use the 2 M1015s as MPIO to the E26 SM backplane. I'd use one...

Correct HBA for SuperMicro Chassis w/MPIO

I have two M1015 SAS adapters on their way to me. I already have a SuperMicro X8DTH-6f board running (check the config in my sig). I do not have a chassis for all this equipment. Currently, it's just sitting on a shelf in my basement. I would like to purchase a SuperMicro chassis for this...

Flashing IBM m1015 to LSI 9240-8i issues

I know this thread is old but, is there any news on this? I just purchased 2 M1015 cards from eBay and will be flashing to 9211 IT mode (For use in an ESXi 4.1 box with FreeNAS VM) and I need to know if the card in 9211 mode doesn't do "JBOD" but makes each disk a RAID0. Anyone have any idea?

    esx vSphere and FreeNAS NAS4Free?

I am running ESXi 4.1 on a SuperMicro X8DTH-6f board and a Xeon E5520 processor with 24GB RAM. I am passing the LSI 2008 chipset/SAS card to the FreeNAS VM. The only issue I had was that the VM wouldn't boot on install. I had to un-pass the controller on install. Then in the...

I'm the other forum member Mindflux is talking about. Same thing happens to me. I'm on Win7 x64 Firefox (Ultimate at home, Pro at work). It's really odd. I just tried this on IE8, and the same thing happens. Very strange. We are on two totally different networks too (me in Illinois, he in...
